Do I have this right?

Does this mean that Christianity is a complete sham, at least from the sense of divinity?

Isn't he not supposed to have a family and now supposed to be in Heaven?

38. Jesus WAS way cool
Jesus Was Way Cool

by: King Missile

Jesus was way cool
Everybody liked Jesus
Everybody wanted to hang out with him
Anything he wanted to do, he did
He turned water into wine
And if he wanted to
He could have turned wheat into marijuana
Or sugar into cocaine
Or vitamin pills into amphetamines

He walked on the water
And swam on the land
He would tell these stories
And people would listen
He was really cool

If you were blind or lame
You just went to Jesus
And he would put his hands on you
And you would be healed
That's so cool

He could've played guitar better than Hendrix
He could've told the future
He could've baked the most delicious cake in the world
He could've scored more goals than Wayne Gretzky
He could've danced better than Barishnikov
Jesus could have been funnier than any comedian you can think of
Jesus was way cool

He told people to eat his body and drink his blood
That's so cool
Jesus was so cool
But then some people got jealous of how cool he was
So they killed him
But then he rose from the dead
He rose from the dead, danced around
Then went up to heaven
I mean, that's so cool
Jesus was way cool

No wonder there are so many Christians

"If we were not all the golden eternity we wouldnt be here. Because we are here we can't help being pure. To tell man to be pure on account of the punishing angel that punishes the bad and the rewarding angel that rewards the good would be like telling the water "Be Wet""

61. Thanks for the link PC Kelly! Now I know for certain this theory is balderdash.
Sorry, but part of the evidence, according to this article, is that Latin nicknames were carved onto this collection of burial ossuaries. There certainly were some Hellenized Jews in Jerusalem at that time who spoke and used Latin. Jesus and his mother were not among such Jews. Jesus was a pharisee and would have spoken only Aramaic and Hebrew--his family wouldn't have buried him with Greek-bearing ossuary, and certainly not one with Latin text!

This story, while charming, is bogus.

7. Yeah, all those early disciples were tortured/died knowingly for a lie
They figured 'What the hell, Jesus is off with that hot groupee Mary so why don't we wander about preaching for him and die'?

First, people were saying Jesus never existed. Now they are saying he did because it also helps the cause.

Some things just make no sense....

39. No, but these were people who knew him and if he were a fake
they would have rescinded their views instead of being tortured and dying - like leaders of other faiths who let others die while they hide.

It doesn't make sense in that they pretty much seemed to believe it, and they had nothing to gain in it all (except their own imprisonment and death). They died for something they truly believed, most of them were there at the time, and would be in a better position to know what went on.

51. You have some sort of evidence to prove that the Martyr stories
Edited on Mon Feb-26-07 02:36 PM by WakingLife
are factual and not just myths themselves? After all the Bible and Josephus differ on the death of John the Baptist (as do the Gospel accounts themselves), so the Bible's reliability in such matters is surely suspect. The Bible itself has 2 contradictory accounts of Judas' death. On what basis do you claim the martyr deaths as historical? The (contradictory) Bible itself?

That aside, what if the Martyrs thought what they believed was true but it wasn't? I mean, after all, the Muslim suicide bombers on 9/11 died for their beliefs. That doesn't make their beliefs true.

8. it's an intriguing story, just doesn't jive:
Why would Jesus' family, who were from Nazareth, have a big tomb in Jerusalem where they visited once a year for passover? Why did they bury Jesus in a rich man's tomb right after crucifixion if he had a family tomb in the city? Let's not jump into conclusions.

50. I thought Joseph of Arimathea took care of that...
He was a man of means, and supposedly related to Mary Magdalene, it wouldn't be considered far out that, after Jesus passed, that Joseph of Arimathea would have taken care of his remaining family, mother, father, brothers and sisters, in addition to, if the rumors are true, wife and kids.

In addition to this, while Jesus himself may have taken a vow of poverty, there is no evidence to suggest his father took the same vow. His father was a tradesman of some sort, according to many historians, either a mason or a carpenter, and Jesus was supposedly his apprentice, as was tradition at the time. Jesus' family of the time was probably the closest to "middle class" that you could come in the Roman province of Judea.

A combination of these factors would suggest that it isn't a stretch to assume that Jesus, if he existed at the time, whether just a mortal man and prophet, or as a true Messiah, would be interred in a tomb.

"It's a beautiful story but without any proof whatsoever," Bar Ilan University professor Amos Kloner, who researched the tomb for the Israeli periodical Atiqot in 1996, told Deutsche Presse-Agentur on Friday.

He's attempting to debunk the find, but could be talking about the New Testament itself.

Edited on Mon Feb-26-07 12:55 PM by Mandate My Ass
It was in no way sensational but religious scholars both Christian and Jewish agreed that at the time Jesus walked the earth, he would have had to have been married at the time he was preaching. Gospels show Joseph and Mary were observant Jews, taking JC to the temple when he was 12 etc. Marriage wasn't optional in their society. It was arranged by the parents during adolescence and it was a mandatory sacrament. In order to hold the title "rabbi," which he did, Jesus would have had to be a married man. Big whoop.

23. It wasn't decided that Jesus was divine until about 300 years after
the crucifixion.

There were a number of interpretations of what Jesus means/meant up until that point (some saw him as human, others divine). Now, while there are many denominations, most agree on the divinity of Jesus.

I see Jesus as fully human...as such, he uncovered something fully divine at the heart of that humanity. Just my two cents (or drachma).

The leaders of the Christian churches (catholics included) cannot allow such a thing to ever become mainstream fact. Finding a body would discredit the entire belief system. 100 bucks this story goes nowhere mainsteam.

I think it's pretty neat and I can't wait to read more about it. I am a fan of history and religious history so I find this fascinating. I also can understand how it could turn the whole world upside down. 100's of millions of people having their deepest life's beliefs shattered all at once can never be good.

53. Excitement over the discovery of Jesus’ burial site is premature
Excitement over the discovery of Jesus’ burial site is premature, Israeli archeologist Professor Amos Kloner said.

Kloner was referring to the hype surrounding a new documentary film, which has made the claim that coffins found in a Jerusalem cave nearly 30 years ago contain the remains of Jesus, Mary, Mary Magdalene, and other family members.

The internationally renowned archeologist, who revealed the findings of the dig 10 years ago, criticized the filmmakers' marketing strategy and warned against being over enthusiastic about the alleged discovery.

As one reaches different stages of progress, certain powers are developed... and what Patanjali mentions are all in accordance with the miracles assigned to Jesus.

59. Isn't James Cameron a 33 degree Freemason?
Thought I read that somewhere

My take is we don't know which Yeshua was buried and his family? but that they found their graves

Is it Yeshua of the New testament? I don't know and I don't think Cameron does
Just that he found graves of a family of Yeshua

I'm not interested in the graves but interested in Yeshua's message and thats been even corrupted over the centuries

I do believe Jesus had a family wife and children and it wasn't in the interest of the church for him to have them

Peter was married and had children as well as the other disciples ...

Cameron is quite a suspicious character cause he is a 33rd degree FreeMason
so it makes me wonder what agenda is Freemasonry on
