Oh I know they go their bible and read how their god said to choose one.

hmmm wierd its not there. nothing in the old testament.....nothing that Jesus said.....how odd.

There must be something in there that gave power to man otherwise he'll have some splainin to do upon reaching his reward.

anyways....how do they choose their new ceo?

2. the college of Cardinals
convenes 15-20 days after the death of the Pope (all those cardinals under 80 years of age, at least) and they start voting. If a candidate gets 2/3rds of the vote, he is the new pope.

If, after 30 ballots, nobody has a 2/3rds majority, then they go to a simple majority.

a simple majority is all that's required now. THe rules were changed in 1996.

4. Matthew 16:18

And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.

(The KJV isn't very Catholic, but I like the language.)

St Peter's is built on the site where, traditionally, the Apostle Peter was executed & buried.

Other threads here will give you details on the procedure for electing a new Pope. But that really wasn't what you were asking, was it?

6. watch for the white smoke from the vatican
that will signal that the cardnials have selected a new pope....but, while discussion have assuredly been taking place quietly for some time, the college won't meet unitl at least 15 days after the end of the mourning period....so there'll be plenty of time for CNN, MSNBC, and Faux to get their graphics departments making nifty cartoons to explain the process....

8. A good book on it - Angels and Demons by Dan Brown
yes, its fiction, from the same guy who wrote the Da Vinci Code, but his description of the Papal Election and the ceremonies that surround it are accurate.
