... The bishops of Venezuela commented on “the climate of tension and uncertainty that the country is living through, caused by a complex crisis which has arisen between the sister governments of the republics of Columbia and Ecuador, and between the Venezuelan and Columbian government.”

"We are deeply saddened by the situation which has been created between the governments of our sister republics,” added the note.

The message continues, “Beyond the immediate causes which have unleashed the present crises between the three governments, we are worried that the deterioration of the situation could wound the traditional climate of peaceful coexistence and could provoke an armed conflict between these sister peoples ...

The episcopal conference underscored that “nothing positive or lasting can be built from violence, hatred and war; neither within our country nor with our neighboring countries and brothers." ...

3. Religion plays both sides
It is common in all the Latin America proxy wars for many rank and file religious to be with the lower classes and the regional leaders (e.g. bishops, cardinals) to be more supportive of the feudal classes (money = power).

4. Wow, I thought I was the only one that continues to see the Bishops as "Fedual Lords" who expect
every one of their parishes, parishioners and benefactors to pay the diocesan tax to support their lifestyle while at the same time threatening excommunication (or deny communion) to those who will not vote on the single issue of abortion while ignoring all the other pro-life issues like medical insurance for poor children and the indigent or underemployed; the illegal war in Iraq; etc. Since many of them were not born or raised in the U.S. they have latched on to the idea that the only solution to abortion is a civil law. There are other solutions that must be tried.

5. I Have No Doubt
I have no doubt these men are doing the right thing. They are doing their best to spread peace and love and attempting to prevent a bloody war with their neighbor.
