Rabbi Dov Lifshitz, chairman of the Yad L'Achim anti-missionary organization, said he doubted that Jews were behind the bombing.
"Someone who thinks logically will not do this. It just harms the struggle. I'm sure this is not connected to the anti-missionary cause," he told the Post.
If the culprit is Jewish, the bomber "is either crazy or does not understand the struggle," Lifshitz added.
Well, I believe there are some crazy people (even if a minority) who are members of the "Anti-missionaries" movement. Crazy and stupid enough to do such thing. Some of its members (even if a small minority) are religious fanatics, crazy enough to go around harassing not only these missionary groups but harassing also Reform and Conservative synagogues in Israel with vandalism and threats.
"Messianic Jews" or "Jewish Christians" pose little danger to the Jewish community, but they do cause considerable confusion. The real threat is minimal but nevertheless they have the capacity to lead some peripheral members of the Jewish community to think Judaism = Christianity and misinform the general public about the nature of Judaism. I understand Christians trying to convert Jews but it is kind of dishonest for someone to dress like a Jew and follow some religious Jewish traditions that were put in place after Christianity had been established just to attract them and attempt to convert Jews. For example, it is sometimes a good idea to do some "investigation" before you sign up your child for a "Jewish" summer camp because they won't say it in their nice little Hebrew camp name or in their description but once you look further you will see that they will teach your kids how Yeshua died for your sins, to praise Yeshua, etc. The same goes for the out of towner who is looking for a shabbat service and finds a "synagogue" called "Beit Shalom" with a big sign outside saying, "Chaverim, come and enjoy Shabbat with us". But he will go inside only to have the "nice" surprise that it is nothing but a Christian service and a bunch of vultures inside trying to convert him.
Instead of only doubting that one of the members did such a horrible thing, this Rabbi should condemn whoever is the culprit and add that it is even worse and an embarrassment if it comes out to be someone from his own little movement.
