2. It can be very entertaining.

There are a lot of great people there who ask both thought-provoking and hilarious questions (if you check it out, keep an eye out for a troll called the "What Should I Do Retard" He's terrific. And there are a load of fundies there if exploding fundieheads is your thing. But there are some very good Protestants there, too, and the Pagans, Jews, Catholics, and atheists get along quite well, most of the time.

But like I told ZombieHorde, there are a lot of quality people there too, some of whom are even worth getting to know personally.

But golden nuggets are hard to find in that deep dark mine.

Not that DU is a glorious motherlode of intellectual rigor and nonstop treasures (and yes I include my own efforts in that sober assessment) but where perhaps one thread in fifty on YA goes beyond "nya nya burn in hell! vs. "credulous moron sky fairy worshipper!" it's at least 50-50 here.

As for my persona it's not hard to work out for anyone who spends much time there.
