10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals overturns Bible law ruling
An appeals court ruled Monday a Ten Commandments monument on the Haskell County Courthouse lawn in Stigler violates the Constitution because its primary effect is to endorse religion.

The 10th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals ruled 3-0 against the 8-foot-tall monument in a challenge brought by the American Civil Liberties Union of Oklahoma and a Haskell County resident who said it offended him.

The ACLU said the decision means "the county cannot continue to display it on the courthouse lawn. That said, nothing prevents any individual, group, or congregation from publicly displaying the same monument on their own property — and we would defend their right to do so.”

An attorney for the commissioners said the judges erred "for many reasons” in Monday’s decision, and he cited Supreme Court decisions in similar cases to support his conclusion. Attorney Kevin Theriot said he is recommending to the commissioners that they ask all 12 judges of the court to reconsider the decision of the three-judge panel.

Considering this tablet of Mosaic Law contains a prohibition against worshiping the false idol of any graven image of itself, it's well and good that it should be relegated to a proudly private display elsewhere. Otherwise it's confusing to young children who'll only ever need to remember the more accurate 2 Commandments given us in the Sermon on the Mount.

It's not fair to criticize G_d by publicly pointing out such gross inconsistencies, regardless of their historical accuracy.

6. Or it's confusing to those who need to remember the 1 amendment that begins the Bill of Rights
Which, btw, is the law that we live under in this country. Just in case you were confused.

8. Meanwhile, a few weeks back the morans in the OK Leg. passed a law to put the 10 Commandments on the
State Capitol grounds (a HUGH monument of 'em, King James version) and it was signed by our so-called "Democratic" governor.

ARRGGGHH, the STOOPID in this state...
Yeah, the state is in such great shape that the Leg sees fit to spend their time on such crucial matters... 10 Commandments statues, mandatory ultrasounds for all women seeking an abortion, and it goes on and on, :banghead: :banghead:

10. I just dont get it!
When will these people finally understand that putting up a religious display, of ANY kind, on government property is a violation of the Constitution? I think that they do it in order to create controversy. Looking at that picture really just pisses me off because as a person of no faith (because there is not a single piece of evidence that support the existence of a god at all) the first line reads "thou shall have no god before me" (or something like that) that IS religious, period.

11. They do understand
but what you have to remember about fundies is that they don't care about the law and and they don't care about the truth. They only care about getting their way.

12. Which really lets me know how "american" their values are.
They always fall back on the "America was founded on xtian principles" meme. Just goes to show that selfishness is a core belief they have.

17. A Solution:
Someone needs to make a statue of demons sacrificing a virgin to Satan, place it on the same courthouse lawn, and then have a group of Satanists protest and then sue when it's removed.

The blatant hypocrisy will lead the way to reason.
