Apparent Gay Exorcism in Conn. Church Causes Outrage
Source: Los Angeles Times

BRIDGEPORT, Conn. (WPIX) -- A video which shows an exorcism of a teen to drive out apparent "homosexual demons" has sparked outrage among several gay rights activists.

The video, which was posted on YouTube, features church elders from the Manifested Glory Ministries Church in Bridgeport performing the exorcism on the boy who is said to be 16-years-old.

"Right now I command you to leave!" screamed one of the church leaders involved with the exorcism in the video.

The teenager is seen rolling around on the ground, moaning and screaming - at one point he even vomits.

Although it was never confirmed to be a gay exorcism, repeated references to the subject's sexual orientation suggests it was.

"I think it's horrifying," Robin McHaelen, executive director of True Colors, told the Associated Press, referring to the video posted by Manifested Glory's now-defunct YouTube page. "What saddens me is the people that are doing this think they are doing something in the kid's best interests, when in fact they're murdering his spirit."

McHaelen says she is going to report this to the Connecticut Department of Children and Families.

This is really fucked up, especially considering this ain't in some jerkwater in the bible belt.
When is this lunacy going to stop!

1. Soooo, why was the kid....
"rolling around on the ground, moaning and screaming "

An d why "- at one point he even vomits" ????????????????

Seems the kid had "issues" that had nothing to do with orientation.

2. Brainwashing (i.e., religion) is a very powerful force, especially in kids.
There's a good chance he went along to not get exiled from his family.

3. I'm not sure I understand what you're saying...
I won't watch the video. I think it's gruesome to try to "gay away" someone, but who knows what they did to the kid?

10. True, he may have been through major crap in preparation for the
"exorcism". They may have starved him, beaten him, who knows?

12. Maybe the water in the font had an E-coli level exceeding 100,000 ppb.
After all, what kind of water would you use to wash something that had contained "holy" water? Probably nothing less holy, I'd think.

Or maybe they wouldn't wash it at all. Yuck. I once did a concert at some protestant church that had a baptismal tank. At the time, the tank was empty, but there was slimy black mold drying all over the insides.

22. If I were being tortured like that, I'd probably be writhing and vomiting too.
The psychological trauma being heaped on that child is incalculable at this point.

23. When are we going to stop coddling and making excuses for these hate groups?
I'm tired of these homophobic hate groups masquerading around under the pretense of religion. This is exactly the type of attitude that causes some people to feel that it's okay to hurt or kill homosexuals. After all, if God says that homosexuality is an abomination, and their Bible says that homosexuals should be put to death, they're only doing God's work, aren't they?

We don't tolerate pseudo-religious groups that try to rationalize violence against African-Americans (ie World Church of the Creator), why should we tolerate those who rationalize violence against homosexuals or anybody else?

24. Religions ARE the problem
They state that they have the answers and that they should be unassailable. They also stand by a magical and supernatural worldview and reject the word of outsiders.

It's intrinsic. It's a way to stop any questioning and bend people to the will of the establishment. This is why religion is inherently conservative: an authoritarian need for control and a fearful disdain for change or uncertainty.

These are not weirdos masquerading as the religious, these are merely the natural, inevitable outgrowths of religion that many believers refuse to accept as part of the deal.
