Jews heartened by Pope decision to review sainthood of priest
By Reuters

Jewish leaders told Reuters the Pope's readiness to reconsider the Dehon case at this late date raised hopes the Vatican might go slow on Pius, who many Jews say turned a blind eye to the Holocaust.

"I would ask that the same kind of circumspect, thoughtful analysis that is now going to be applied to the beatification of Dehon be used in the beatification process of Pius XII," said Rabbi Gary Bretton-Granatoor, interfaith director for the Anti-Defamation League.

The Vatican maintains Pius did not speak out more forcefully because he was afraid of worsening the fate of Catholics and Jews and worked behind the scenes to save Jews.

While the beatification process of Pius is still at its early stages, Jewish groups have been pressing the Vatican to either freeze the sainthood process or shelve it altogether for fears that it would worsen Catholic-Jewish relations.

1. What a batch of BULLPOOP...
Pius XII, while not OPENLY anti-semitic, did ALMOST NOTHING to help European Jewry during the Holocaust.

He DID ONCE manage to get 3000 visas to help European Jews go to Brazil, but 2/3 of these were rescinded for "improper conduct," whatever the hell THAT means...

- He said NOTHING about Kristallnacht.
- In 1940, Chief Rabbi of Palestine asked the papal Secretary of State, Cardinal Luigi Maglione to intercede to keep Spanish Jews from being deported to Germany. He later made the same request for Lithuanian Jews. The papacy did NOTHING.
- Cardinal Theodor Innitzer of Vienna told Pius XII about Jewish deportations in 1941. The papacy did NOTHING.
- In 1942, the Slovakian charge d'affaires, under the supervision of the Pope, reported to Rome that Slovakian Jews were being systematically deported and sent to death camps. The Pope did NOTHING.
- In October 1941, the Assistant Chief of the U.S. delegation to the Vatican, Harold Tittman, asked the Pope to condemn the atrocities. Puis XII's response was that the Church wanted to remain "neutral," and that the Church could not condemn the atrocities because it would have a negative influence on German Catholics.
- In August of 1942, more than 200,000 Ukrainian Jews were killed. Ukrainian Metropolitan Andrej Septyckyj wrote to the Pope, referring to the Nazis as a regime of terror and corruption, more diabolical than the Bolsheviks. The Pope quoted verses from Psalms and advised Septyckyj to - GET THIS - "bear adversity with serene patience." SHEESH!!!
- On September 18, 1942, Monsignor Giovanni Battista Montini (future Pope Paul VI) wrote, "The massacres of the Jews reach frightening proportions and forms." the Vatican Secretary of State responded on the Pope's behalf that it was - BELIEVE IT OR NOT - impossible to verify rumors about crimes committed against the Jews. This was almost IMMEDIATELY after Myron Taylor, U.S. representative to the Vatican, warned the Pope that his silence was endangering the moral prestige of the Catholic Church...
- Wladislaw Raczkiewicz, president of the Polish government-in-exile, appealed to the Pope in January 1943 to publicly denounce Nazi violence. Bishop Preysing of Berlin did the same, at least twice. Pius XII refused. GO FIGURE...

And they are going to BEATIFY this sumbitch??? Personally, I am glad that he ALMOST CERTAINLY has a front row seat at Lucifer's Eternal Bar-B-Que and Rib Cook-Off...

2. When Pope Pius XII died in 1958, Jews all over the world mourned him

and recalled all he had done to help the Jewish people. Golda Meir, Leonard Bernstein, and Albert Einstein were famous Jews who paid tribute to Pius XII.

The Jews who mourned in 1958, much closer in time to the Nazi era, were quite knowledgeable about all that Pius XII and other Catholics, both clergy and laity, did
to save Jewish lives.

Unfortunately, there has been a smear campaign against Pius XII for years.

3. In this case, smear campaign = "truth"
The famous people who paid tribute to Un-Pius XII when he croaked were probably about as sincere as all the people who said nice things about Nixon when he finally shuffled off this mortal coil.

The cover photo shows two-year-old Fiorella Anticoli, seized with her entire family in the infamous roundup of almost 1,300 Roman Jews on 16 October 1943.

The arrests were carried out by units of the S.S. specially trained for such "actions" and sent to the Italian capital for the purpose.

Working under the very walls of the Vatican, the operation had to be carried out as efficiently and with as little tumult and commotion as possible.

4. In the UK many documents regarding Pius XII and the Nazi
Edited on Tue Jun-21-05 09:49 AM by emad
connections that are still classified top secret under the draconian Official Secrets Act. In particular files that linked him to Archbishop Cosmo Lang, Oswald Moseley (the British fascist leader of the Black Shirts movement), Earl Mountbatten of Burma and arious members of the Russian-born Freeman family.

Many atempts by UK journos to get access to these files have been thwarted by official D Notices - Ministry of Defence gagging orders.

The last time questions were asked about this in Parliament was in late 1996. The standard reply given alluded to the refusal of disclosure of ANY of these papers during the lifetime of QEII - 'Elizabeth Windsor'.

EDIT: The celebrated Nazi writer David Cesarini has published some of the most authortative, accurately researched and scholarly work on the extensive Nazi role played by Pius XII and his cabal.

He has also testified on a number of high profile human rights lawsuits were former Nazis were successfully tried and convicted of war crimes.

Cesarini claimed most of Pius XII's vociferous public admirers had been paid to eulogise about him after his death by the same financial paymasters that bankrolled the Nazis in the 1930s and '40s.

5. There is a positive note in all this
Well, no matter what is decided on the Pius issue, it is heartening that the Catholic Church has done a lot to reach out to Jews in recent history. I am glad that the current Pope seems willing (I hope eager) to continue the policy of his predecessor.
