"3 Nails + 1 Cross = 4given" bumper sticker . . .
I'm thinking the most obnoxious people I know are those who take forgiveness from others for granted.

7. Yeah, "God wants us to get rid of all of those who aren't us."
Thanatopsis in "our" blood makes Pharisees rave and glorify death.

I've been saying all along (for 3 years now), their only REAL solution is Genocide. The course we are on is based upon the assumption that we will kill all of the Muslims we want. It's Christianity against Islam to many Evangelicals and some serious Rascists in this country.

4. Not sure if you understand the concept........
it is God and he alone that gives the Forgiveness, we in turn are to mimic the behavior........for me the hardest thing to accept and to give. I am not trying start a Flame War, just clarifying the concept.

13. Right, the forgiveness that is taken for granted is "God's" forgiveness.
Which is the exact opposite of what Jesus was about. Freely embraced mindfulness, as close to every second of existence/behavior as possible.

16. Exactly
"And forgive us our wrongs as we forgive those who have wronged us". Straight from the man himself, prophet Jesus, (peace be upon him) as I recall.

Unfortunately both he and Muhammad (peace be upon them) said many things that have to be retracted and forgotten by their supposed followers so they can have their way.

If only they believed that one day they will have to answer.

Peace.

17. Thanks for the reply......
i am amazed at what is being done in the name of Jesus nowadays. I have a real problem with my faith at times because of it, I have warmonger young adults in my church......, but you lifted up my day.

5. I find that very distasteful. Are they trying
to inform others or shame them? I believe they are trying to convince themselves.

9. I think this bumper sticker
and the idea that it represents completely misses the point of Jesus life and death, so much so it appears he died in vain. A person's death in and of itself does not equal forgiveness, and to me this thought is insane.

I'm no theological scholar, but I believe Jesus died because he dared to challenge the conventional wisdom of the time, because he dared to help the disenfranchised, and this made the ruling class all kinds of nervous. His unselfishness in life and execution offer us a critical lesson that we should do the same, regardless of the consequences.

12. That's the way I see him.
He knew we each must decide FREELY what is right and wrong, because each free act of service and devotion to truth is a manifestation of affinity between "man" and whatever reality really is, beyond all of our perceptions and religious blasphemies.

He understood how this impulse is warped by various group forces. He resisted that because he was brave. He was killed for exposing a poisonous lie many of us call "we".

14. Well said
To add: The fundies say Jesus died for our sins, so that we may be forgiven. I say he died BECAUSE of "our (meaning the those that stood idly by and watched this injustice)" sins, because "we" were not strong enough to stop it. Forgiveness is granted to those that learn from this lesson, living a life of kindness, and fighting injustice where we see it.

18. Gee whiz, I thought it was a contract
being honored. You know, the contract between God and Abraham because Abraham was willing to sacrifice his own son just because God asked. You know, the Covenant.

Honestly, I'm not trying to be a smartass here. It's been a long time since I've cracked open a Bible. Grew up Catholic, so it wasn't my place to read it, just to memorize the catechism. Could someone clarify? Respectfully....
