In what religions is it preached that it's okay to lie under oath in court? |
|
Judge John E. Jones III ruled that members of Dover's school board lied under oath to hide their religious motivations. http://www.talkorigins.org/faqs/dover/kitzmiller_v_dover_decision.htmlI think that there's a big difference between on the one hand genuine religiousness, and on the other hand membership in a social club that idolizes a particular book and pursues the attainment of religiously motivated goals unrestrained by rules of ethics.

4. In this case, they were lying about |

things that had nothing to do with the alleged truth of their religion. So yes, they did know. And would be in jail right now if there were any justice.

If it's in an infidel court, that is. Google Hudaibiya for more info. This article is pretty good, too. http://www.islamreview.com/articles/lyingprint.htm

9. Why is it necessary to link to a hate site? |
|
That website is a Christian-based, anti-Islamic website. Hardly a unbiased source.

8. Lying for Jesus is ALWAYS okay! |
|
For if the truth of God hath more abounded by my lie unto his glory, why yet am I also adjudged a sinner? – St. Paul, Romans 3: 7
We shall introduce into this history in general only those events which may be useful first to ourselves and afterwards to posterity. - Eusebius, "Ecclesiastical History," Vol. 8, chapter 2.
Not all true things are the truth, nor should that truth which merely seems true according to human opinions be preferred to the true truth, that according to the faith. - Clement of Alexandria
For great is the value of deceit, provided it be not introduced with a mischievous intention. In fact action of this kind ought not to be called deceit, but rather a kind of good management...
And often it is necessary to deceive, and to do the greatest benefits by means of this device, whereas he who has gone by a straight course has done great mischief to the person whom he has not deceived. - St. John Chrysostom, "Treatise On The Priesthood," Book 1.

Paul is condemning that behavior. Nice try :) Did you know that and post it anyway, or did you just copy and paste some anti-Christian website?
5But if our unrighteousness brings out God’s righteousness more clearly, what shall we say? That God is unjust in bringing his wrath on us? (I am using a human argument.) 6Certainly not! If that were so, how could God judge the world? 7Someone might argue, “If my falsehood enhances God’s truthfulness and so increases his glory, why am I still condemned as a sinner?” 8Why not say—as we are being slanderously reported as saying and as some claim that we say—“Let us do evil that good may result”? Their condemnation is deserved.

Sort of like the Epimenides Paradox in which Paul got himself snarled... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Epimenides_paradox

11. Read II Chronicles Chapter 18, wherein it is explained that |
|
God occasionally sends down angels whose specialty is forcing humans to lie. Whenever that happens, they (humans) have an excuse, IMHO.
In fact, as in the story in Chronicles, it seems a little odd that God punishes King Ahab for believing those lies.
Mysterious ways.
