Catholic priest charged with exposing himself on Sarasota beach
SARASOTA -- A Catholic priest has been charged with exposing himself on Caspersen Beach in Sarasota County, according to the Sarasota County Sheriff's Office.

Rev. Bernard Chojnacki, 36, a priest at St. Charles Borromeo Parish in Port Charlotte, about 1 p.m. Tuesday exposed himself to an undercover detective who was investigating reports of indecent activities on Caspersen Beach in Englewood.

"Chojnacki grabbed an undercover detective inappropriately, exposed himself and stated his desire to perform a sexual act.," a news release states.

1. A seminary education
seems to run short when it comes to pick-up techniques.

2. It's just sex. It's between him and anyone who saw it.
God, what PURITANS some people are.

(Um...get it?)

3. It's not the priest's fault. He's still a little confused about the sexual revolution of the '60s.

4. This is a beautiful beach
not far from my home -- a miles-long beach with a small, secluded section notorious for being a 'pick-up' area for gay men. The local police have often been accused of entrapment methods to curtail such activity. It's generally a trouble-free situation, but there's periodic outcry from (mostly) tourists who wander into the area, maybe out of curiosity, who are offended by the "scantily clad" men. Of course, they don't complain about the scantily-clad women. The priest trolling for a good time, however, has a totally different connotation, what with his celibacy vows and all.

accept that some people are gay, so he has to resort to this, despite the police entrapment that occurs. That's the real shame here, I think. Imagine if this priest had been able to find partners and form relationships freely. Seems to me that would be a better situation, somehow.

6. But if he could "find partners and form relationships freely..."
He would lose the magical, Gawd-given ability to counsel his parishioners about their sex lives.

According to the rules, only celibate people can do that.

But as another recent thread points out...there are still laws on the books declaring atheists to be prima facie insane.
