Jesus's water-to-wine jugs found after all these years? |
|
From: NY Daily News 12/22/04
Cana, Israel - Archeologists have found pieces of large stone jars of the type the Bible says Jesus used when he turned water into wine at a Jewish wedding in Cana.
They also believe that the site where the shards were found could be the location of the biblical village of Cana. But Bible scholars caution it will be hard to obtain conclusive proof -- especially since experts disagree on exactly where Cana was located centuries ago.
The shards were found during a salvage dig in modern-day Cana, between Nazareth and Capernaum. Israeli archaeologist Yardena Alexander said the jar pieces date to the Roman period, when Jesus traveled in the Galilee region.
"All indications from the archeological excavations suggest that the site of the wedding was Cana, the site that we have been investigating," said Alexander.
However, American archeologists excavating a rival site several miles to the north also have found pieces of stone jars from the time of Jesus, and they also believe they have found the biblical Cana.
Christian theologians attach great significance to the water-to-wine miracle at Cana. They say the act was not only Jesus' first miracle, it came at a crucial point in the early days of his public ministry when he was under pressure to demonstrate his divinity. **************************** Now, I don't mean to be blasphemous or anything, but I wonder why the archeologists don't consider that with all the "free wine" that was available at the wedding that perhaps some guests took a jug or two home..which would explain why shards were found in two different places.

C'mon. Scientifically(and we are talking science here...), how would you prove that the wedding in question took place or took place in this spot.
This is some jamoke looking for headlines.

This is absolutely and completely stupid. So someone found pieces of stone jars of a type that may have been used for water and/or wine in a place that may or may not have been anywhere near a place called Cana?
Why did anyone even bother to write this nonarticle?

5. What did Jesus and friends do? |

Break the jars on the spot? Give ME a break. Not only that, but jars weren't all that easy to make way back then. I would venture to guess they took good care of the ones they had. A high percentage of jars break in the firing process while making them.

13. Yeah.. jars were sooo difficult to make... |
|
that they're found constantly at archeological sites all over the world, many of which pre-date the alleged time of Jesus by several millenia.

7. Someone probably wrote this article just so that |
|
the paper would have a reason to use the name of Jesus in today's news. Don't forget...they don't want to seem to be taking the "Christ" out of Christmas. The MSM has to prove itself loyal to the evangelicals.

6. A miracle! say Hallelujah! |

Now if they find a half of a cheese sandwich with a picture of Thelma Todd ...oops, I mean Jesus' mom on it -- it will be proof.
Uh, proof of...uh...well proof they aren't just busted up beer bottles from Noah's boat rides or anything --- and just in time for Xmas. I am divinely inspired.
Just like John Waters.

9. What struck me as funny was |
|
the competetive nature of the two archeological teams...each one claiming to have found the exact spot of the biblical wedding at Cana.

Sir Robert: I'm happy too, now at last we know there was a Sumerian influence here in Abu Simnel in the early pre-dynastic period, two thousand years before the reign of Tutankhamun, (he breaks into song again) Today I hear the robin sing / Today the thrush is on the wing (Danielle joins in) Today who knows what life will bring... (They are just about to embrace, when there is a jarring chord and long crash. The interviewer is standing on the edge of the dig.) Interviewer: All right Eversley, get up out of that trench. Sir Robert: Don't forget... I'm six foot five. Interviewer: That doesn't worry me... Kastner! (He snaps his fingers. From behind him Professor Kastner appears, fawningly) Kastner: Here Lord. Interviewer: Up! (He snaps his fingers and Kastner leaps onto his shoulders.) Sir Robert: Eleven foot three! Kastner: I'm so tall! I am so tall! Sir Robert: Danielle! (Danielle leaps on his shoulders.) Interviewer: Eleven foot six - damn you! Abdul! (Abdul appears on Kastner's shoulders.) Sir Robert: Fifteen foot four! Mustapha! (Mustapha appears on Danielle's shoulders.) Interviewer: Nineteen foot three... damn you! (The six of them charge each other. They fight in amongst the trestle tables with rare pots on them breaking and smashing them. When the fight ends everyone lies dead in a pile of broken pottery. The bloodied interviewer crawls up to camera and produces a microphone from his pocket.) Interviewer: And there we end this edition of Archaeology Today. Next week, the Silbury Dig by Cole Porter with Pearl Bailey and Arthur Negus.
