What does this mean?
I posted this in another thread and was sent here. I did not realize the DU had a theology section!

I got this "Christmas Card" email from a relative who is a Minister. Anyone want to give me their take on what he is trying to say with this Biblical Quote? It is not as easy as the Chaplain, (from another thread) telling the US troops that they were shepherds protecting the US from the dark forces of Iraq, (by blowing off their heads). Here is the card with the names removed.

In this season of the Messiah

“Here is my servant, whom I uphold,

my chosen one in whom I delight;

I will put my Spirit on him

and he will bring justice to the nations.

2 He will not shout or cry out,

or raise his voice in the streets.

3 A bruised reed he will not break,

and a smoldering wick he will not snuff out.

In faithfulness he will bring forth justice;

4 he will not falter or be discouraged

till he establishes justice on earth.

In his law the islands will put their hope.”

Isaiah 42:1 – 4

Wishing you a Blessed Christmas,

5. If you're an attorney or if you work in the justice system ...
... he might be saying that your work is noble. Even if you neither shout out nor go to war, simply working slowly and diligently, day by day, to make the world a better place is worthy in the eyes of "the Lord."

No clue, really. Just a theory.

6. I'm DEFINITELY NOT an expert,
but it sounds to me like this is God speaking of Jesus...am I wrong? I mean, there's only one Messiah in Christianity, and that's Jesus, right?

I REALLY don't know, but please correct me if I'm wrong!

7. It's a passage from Isaiah describing Jesus, the Messiah,
as a different kind of ruler, one who will bring justice to the nations. It goes along with the epithet "Prince of Peace," showing him as that, not as a warrior king. The people making snarky comments about it being fundie crusade-speak totally missed the point.
