Another thought on the "Happy Holidays"/"Merry Christmas" war |
|
It probably wasn't too many years ago (probably pre-9/11) that the religious reich were concerned about Christmas because, get this,
CHRISTMAS WAS BECOMING WAY TOO COMMERCIALIZED!
In other words, businesses were using "Jesus's birth" to focus too much on making a profit and not enough on the "spirit of the holiday".
Apparently, at the time, the religious reich was so concerned that the businesses were promoting Christmas far too much and far too early just to make sure their profits were huge.

You're right, it used to be that there was a War on Christmas (tm) because those evil retail stores were over-commercializing it, and now that a lot of stores have taken Christmas out of it in favor of Happy Holidays, there's a War on Christmas because their not commercialing it enough! This is ridiculous! Typical right wing schlock... they want it both ways!

2. Nothing can be "too commercialized" in BushAmerica. |

Let's put Jesus back in Wal-mart! We need more consumer spending!

3. Silly! Don't you realise the Spirit of Christmas is |
|
dictating to everyone that they must use the fundamentalist-approved greetings? Next thing you know, you'll be thinking you were meant to take "Peace on Earth and Goodwill to all men" seriously.
