Ann Coulter has a point. Maybe liberals do deserve their own church.

However, I really believe that the best way to accomplish that would be for the religious right to stop calling themselves "Christians", since they don't seem to be spreading the word of Christ.

Maybe they should call themselves Leviticussers or Genesisidiots or something....

What I would really like to see is a poll, and DUers can maybe help me. I don't know if I could ever persuade anyone to actually put this poll in the field, but if I could, I think it would raise some eyebrows about who are the most Christian among us.

1) Are you A) Republican, B) Democrat, or C) Independent/Other.

2) Do you consider yourself A) Christian B) Jewish C) Muslim or D) Other

3. For the following phrases, please indicate a whether you Strongly Disagree, Somewhat Disagree, Somewhat Agree, or Strongly Agree.

3.1) An "eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth" should apply to the foreign policy of the United States.

3.2) Terrorists should be treated with love and compassion.

3.3) Terrorists deserve forgiveness.

3.4) The "Golden Rule" should apply to the foreign policy of the United States.

3.5) The wealthy have a harder time getting to heaven than a poor person.

3.6) Peacemakers are blessed.

3.7) Things born of the flesh are simply flesh.

3.8) People should be more considerate of the poor.

3.9) Healthcare for all shoud be a policy of the United States.

Note: I could certainly use some help with this, but I hope you know where I am going with this. Each phrase was from the words of Christ that we should be following (with the exception of 3.1, which Christ said was not the way).

Please, if you have any suggestions for better wording or more phrases to put on the list, let me know.

Thank you.

Of course the rabid arm of the GOP wants Christianity to be theirs. Of course they want all Christian Church goers to have to choose. It is a Sophie's choice. MAking the choice will diminish you.

WE CAN HAVE OUR RELIGION (whatever it may be) AND OUR POLITICAL WORLD VIEW.

WE CAN HAVE BOTH. Cause it is a big boy pants world out there and we get to make choices all the time.. called voting sometimes.. called praying at other times - your beliefs and your actions are your own.

D - Other (Unitarian Christian - I refuse to call myself simply Christian, and be confused with those assholes on the right-wing of our political spectrum!)

3.3) Terrorists deserve forgiveness.
STRONGLY Disagree (no one who TARGETS innocents deserves forgiveness)

3.4) The "Golden Rule" should apply to the foreign policy of the United States.
Somewhat Agree

3.5) The wealthy have a harder time getting to heaven than a poor person.

6. Um. . .You should probably put
the first two questions at the end. To put "demographic" type questions at the beginning of the poll is strongly indicative of bias.

What the heck -- put 'em anywhere you want. We know what the answers will be.

8. Oh boy
1) Are you A) Republican, B) Democrat, or C) Independent/Other.
B - Flaming Democrat

2) Do you consider yourself A) Christian B) Jewish C) Muslim or D) Other
D - Agnostic Atheist Materialist

3. For the following phrases, please indicate a whether you Strongly Disagree, Somewhat Disagree, Somewhat Agree, or Strongly Agree.

3.1) An "eye for an eye, tooth for a tooth" should apply to the foreign policy of the United States.
Strongly Disagree - Blood begets nothing but blood

3.2) Terrorists should be treated with love and compassion.
Somewhat agree - I tend to think that terrorism can be combatted with such things, but I know the issue is much more complex than I am aware and that pathology of such individuals is much more nuanced than I would like to believe.

3.3) Terrorists deserve forgiveness.
I don't know.

3.4) The "Golden Rule" should apply to the foreign policy of the United States.
No.

3.5) The wealthy have a harder time getting to heaven than a poor person.
Since I don't think there is an afterlife, this question is kind of moot to me.

3.6) Peacemakers are blessed.
? Uh...peace is good. Sure.

3.7) Things born of the flesh are simply flesh.
If I'm reading the question correctly, I'm guessing this is a materialist position. So yeah.

3.8) People should be more considerate of the poor.
Absolutely

3.9) Healthcare for all shoud be a policy of the United States.
ABSOLUTELY NOT! SCREW THE POOR! Just kidding, of course.

9. We liberal Christians manage to find like-minded people in most
communities.

I'm real pleased with my Episcopal parish, and I know that there are liberal Lutheran, Catholic, and Methodist churches here in town.
