I suspect that the loving, compassionate congregation of Fred Phelphs' Westboro Baptist Church will be soon be staging one of their famous hate-fest "GOD HATES FAGS" protests against Ted Haggard.

I wonder how much of Phelps insanity is fueled by a deep felt conviction that people should be paying attention to him instead of Falwell and Roberts and so on.

rather show up someplace where they can stir up anger and hurt, so they get press coverage.

That's the only reason they do funerals: people are in pain and the descent of the gang is just a bit too much for any decent person; so there's bitter controversy and that generates the attention the gang wants.
