he has, shall we say, 'investigated' several alternate religious concepts. He was actually listening. :)

7. Richard Dawkins is going to get himself shot...he's way too convincing. |
|
I think it may make some people very uncomfortable.
The book is awesome. Its very convincing, I think....even if your not atheist, I think it would convince a lot of people to embrace atheism.

|
Imagine...
Imagine a world free from religion...
Imagine what the New York skyline would look like if there were no religion...

The people of the Middle East would absolutely love us if not for Islam, right? The British and the Irish would be best friends, too. :eyes:

We certainly wouldn't have had the Crusades which might have made things better. We wouldn't have a religion that says if you die a martyr, you get great rewards in heaven. What other reason do they have to hate us?
Yeah, 'cause the problems in Ireland have NOTHING to do with religion :eyes: (see, I can do that, too)

14. 9/11 wasn't caused by religion |
|
Note that I am using the "but for" notion of causality - in my opinion, it is not the case that 9/11 would not have happened but for religion.
What other reason do they have to hate us?
Um... plenty, most stemming from our historical abuse of the region. I don't buy the "Christianity v. Islam" model that conservatives put out as the reason for Islamic terrorism.
Yeah, 'cause the problems in Ireland have NOTHING to do with religion
You're overstating the argument. It's not that the Troubles have nothing to do with religion, it's that I don't see religion as the causal factor, because I feel that they would still have fought even in a world without religion.

16. You're right - the issue is culture |
|
(of which religion is only a part).
When one culture tries to dominate another (either through war, occupation or economics) then that culture has to fight back or go under.

11. Dawkins is a good speaker - great sense of humor - quick on his feet. |
|
I read the book. I've seen a lot of it before, especially the proofs of god's existence. The chapter that I enjoyed the most was the one on morality and how even religious people don't get their morality from religion.
