Male Gods and Female Gods. |
|
In the beginning of human kind, people knew who their mothers were, but no one knew who their fathers were. That's because sex was promiscuous. Uncles were more important than fathers, in fact uncles played the father role because people knew who their maternal uncles were. Totems were set up so that incest didn't occur.
During this time, God was a female. The female represented life and sustenance. Society was matriarchal. Inheritance passed down through the female line.
Then there came the time when it could be determined who the fathers were. When that happened, society changed from a matriarchal system to a patriarcichal system. Inheritance passed down the male line. God became male. And women have been oppressed ever since.
Women have been treated so disrespectfully that when I was a child of about 6 years old, after my parents and the church tried to explain to me that although there is only one God, that God was actually three beings in one, i.e. Father, Son and Holy Ghost, I remember remarking, "okay, I get it, the Holy Ghost must be the mother", I was chastised and interrogated as to where I got that from. To which I could only reply, "how can you have a father, and a son, but not a mother in there?" "It doesn't make sense". I was told that that idea was ridiculous and wrong. I could never figure out why, except that it keeps women down. Denies them an equal role in life.

I also wondered what happened to the daughter, except that I tried to rationalize that the "son" really meant "child".
Oh my god, I found it by googling. I'm Jewish and didn't even know it!

5. I've been waiting for the whole Catholic church to get on |
|
board with the message that God is both man and wome. Only few priests that I have received communion from have this awareness.

Mary worship has always made the Church profoundly uneasy.
You know about the rose window, right?
