Character win...Giants cruise past Brewers 7-0
After a heartbreaking loss last night, the Giants once again showed what they are made of as they retook the lead in the wild card race.

Ryan Sadowski shutout the Brewers for 6 innings in winning his ML debut, Matt Downs hit his first ML HR and Nate Schierholtz added 4 hits.

To top off the afternoon, Jonathon Sanchez drilled Prince Fielder with the first pitch of the 9th inning.

All in all, a great day for the Giants and their many fans.

1. Put into perspective, they avoided a sweep today, just like the Natinals
and Royals did.

2. Unlike those other teams

the Giants are a contender...their victories are more important.

3. Uhmm, yes you are 5.5 games ahead of Pittsburgh!
That says a lot.

Sheesh.

4. I'll tell you what "says a lot"
the Pirates might only be 5.5 games behind, but there are 9 teams between them and the wild card leading Giants.

In fact, right now the Giants have the second best record in the NL. Meanwhile, the Pirates are in last place in their division.

5. Well what that really says is that all of those 11 teams are still competitive
Or the Central Division is a strong division, that a last place team could still be in the hunt for the wild card!

9. Sure, mathematically they're in the race
but realistically a lot of those teams aren't. Take your Pirates for example..you know they're not even going to finish above .500, let alone contend for the division or wild card.

And even the most delusional Pirates fans hopes will be dashed come the trading deadline...where ownership is sure to trade away 1 or 2 of their more valuable players...it's no secret that Jack Wilson can be had for the right price.

12. The Giants ain't exactly in the race either
The only reason they lead the WC is because of the schedule that has the other two division playing tougher AL Teams. One would think that a contending team in a weak division would be able to generate some seperation from the pack.

Instead the Frisco Small Men get clobbered by the Brewers.

6. I gotta laugh at that
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH!!!!

MWAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHHA!!!!!

The Giants are contender?

YOu just dropped 2 of three to a team WITH NO PITCHING STAFF!!!!

A team with real character would have closed the door on the Brew Crew and would have taken 2 of three themselves. Not only that, one of your supposed big ace pitchers got creamed.

Way to freakin show up.

7. Ok..Mr Mets
you've already lost the Subway Series and are only 1 lousy game over .500...what a disgrace for a team with the 2nd highest payroll in baseball.

8. You're not a contender
Get used to getting laughed at whenever you make that claim.

You play in the NL Weak and just got romped by team with a pipe cleaner and duct tape pitching staff.

10. That's why..right now as of this moment
the NL West owns the 2 best records in the NL...and the best record in baseball. That's why the NL West has 3 teams that have a better record than your Citi Field chokers.

You can keep citing stats from last year but it doesn't mean squat....it's 2009.

The NL West, after the AL East, is as good a division as any in baseball...

11. You know absolutely NADA about baseball
If you think the NL weak is the second best division in baseball.

Here's how I would rank it;

Al East

AL Central

NL Central

NL East

AL West

NL WEAK!!!!

See me in August when your Giants are eight games out of the wild card. Even better, when the "choker Mets" throw you another beating pushing you to at least 11 games back. The only reason why you have an iota of a shot right now is that the NL East has been fighting it out with the AL East and NL Central is batteling with the AL Central.

13. Lets look at this objectively
no opinion..just facts:

NL West

Dodgers -best record in baseball

Giants-wild card leader

Rockies-hottest team in baseball

Plus the the NL West is the only division in baseball, except for the AL East, to have 3 teams at least 5 games over .500. In fact, the NL West is the only division in the NL to have 3 teams even over .500...your precious overrated NL East only has 2 and that will drop to 1 if the chokers don't come back tonight against the Yankees.

Now you can make excuses, blame it on scheduling or what have you...but the facts are on my side. After the AL East, the NL West is as good if not better than any division in baseball. When you can shoot that argument down with some facts, I'll listen...until then you're just all talk.

14. In september
We won't be talking about the Giants or the Rockeis.

We probably will be talking about the Dodgers. Mainly cause they will have kicked the crap out of the rest of their division.

If you think the NL Weak is the second best division in baseball you are clearly out to lunch.

17. Update
Edited on Mon Jun-29-09 11:17 AM by Upton
Mets now 37-37..are they chokers or jokers?...I think we'll go with both, either way they're losers..and the fact that they're in second place in the division says something about the NL East, and it isn't good.

16. You're right
the Giants have had difficulty in Milwaukee in recent years....that, and the fact that they were coming off a devastating loss, makes Sunday's win that much more important.

18. Sadowski
I only saw a little of the game but judging from what I saw and the line score, I'm impressed. It looks like the Giants have another young phenom (maybe). Will it help the Giants to the playoffs? Probably not. But it makes the best division in baseball look even better.

19. Though Sadowski looked great
he was not even the top pitcher on the starting staff down in Fresno...that would be Kevin Pucetas, but he had just pitched on Thursday, so on that basis the decision was made to bring up Sadowski for yesterday's game.
