2. Sanchez was only starting
because of the injury to Randy Johnson. Normally the 5th starter, he had lost his place in the rotation a couple weeks ago...I think he's probably regained it.

5. The last Giants left hander to throw a nio-hitter:
The great Carl Hubbell in 1929

He was the first NL player to have his number (11) retired. His number is posted on the facing of the upper deck in the left field corner at AT&T Park in San Francisco.

After Rowand's catch I knew he had it...Too bad about Uribe's error in the 8th though...Pablo's in there he has a perfect game.

10. I know. And how ironic would that have been? He was spot starting for
the last guy to throw a perfect game .. Randy Johnson!

Rowand's catch saved the day .. I was all set to collapse on the floor.

Oh Lord do I want to hear Kuipe make the call when we win it all.

I had goosebumps hearing it and it was cool that ESPN carried the inning live national.

12. This is starting to feel like one of those special kind of years
a team of destiny type thing. Everything is falling into place, the team is getting better as the year goes along..even young hitters like Ishikawa and Schierholtz are looking good. They're only going to keep getting better. And with the Giants pitching staff, long losing streaks just aren't going to happen.

The people who were laughing at us in April when we said the Giants could be a contender aren't laughing anymore.

14. This is rich
You trash Sanchez all season as not being worthy of the other guys and now you love him. Mr. 3-8.

Well, one thing that is cool is their pitching coach, Dave Righetti, who threw a no-hitter himself years ago, went to the same high school as me in San Jose.

16. That's of course not accurate. There's a difference between trashing him,
and critiquing his performances as being inconsistent.

Which they have been.

He stepped up tonight and pitched the game of his life.

How are we supposed to react?

Oh and listen to the kid who went to high school in San Jose, turns out to be a big Dodger fan. :wtf:

Grade 9-11 in Santa Barbara and Goleta. Grade 12 in San Jose. I'm sure you'll somehow turn that around to mean I'm not a real Sharks fan.

Douche.

You know to maintain some consistency you should either root for NorCal teams or SoCal teams, splitting your allegiances is somehow sacrilegious.

18. Not a good night for a Dodger fan is it?
I mean, you might have beat the Brewers but the Giants are the headliners on every sports station and page in America, something that is happening with increasing regularity.

The Giants are now a season high 10 games over .500...you better hope you don't see them in the playoffs, no one can deal with their pitching staff.

20. Why would you say that?

Manny is now up there with Mickey Mantle. The Dodgers smash a season-high 5 homers, including a grand slam in the 10th inning by shoulda-been-an-all-star Matt Kemp. It may not be the top story of the night, but it's hardly a bad night to be a Dodgers fan.

11. No, even if you were gloating, it's OK to celebrate a no-hitter
Besides, this is your thread. I'll put up a gloat-free, no frills thread because I think some people might like to go to a single place on this forum to find a score without being afraid to have their team put down.

I reserve only two privileges: as a resident of NorCal, to put the results of the local teams in bold, since I was born here and have lived here most of my life; and, as a baseball fan, to diss that American League blasphemy against baseball, the DH.

ScorpsRock Yesterday 09:56 PM
It actually shouldn't count as no hitter, since it was against the Padres. It's like pistol whipping a blind kid.

40. Jose Uribe must feel like a total shit
for making that error. Could have been a perfect game. Thre are some who say it should have been ruled a base hit. But hometown scorekeeper has to be biased of course or that one Raider fan in the crowd would have kicked his ass.

Edited on Sat Jul-11-09 04:56 PM by cboy4
But not in the pros. A ball hit right to you?

You have to make that play. At least knock it down and recover. There was time because the ball was hit hard enough.

There's another idiot Dodger fan on the sfgate site who was whining that it should have been a hit also.

Unbelievable. Dodgers fans are having a meltdown because they can't stand that the Giants are getting more attention in baseball than LA.

but that is a fantastic achievement. Congratulations to Sanchez and the Giants team for what had to be a stunning night of pitching. A no-hitter is one of the few things that not every pitcher will have in his career, no matter how great he is overall.
