Sharks sign a pair of goalies
The San Jose Sharks have re-signed goaltender Thomas Greiss to a two-year contract and signed Swedish netminder Henrik Karlsson to a one-year deal. Terms were not disclosed.

Greiss, a 23-year-old restricted free agent, appeared in 57 games for the AHL Worcester Sharks during the 2008-09 season. He went 30-24-2 with a 2.47 goals-against average, one shutout and a .907 save percentage -- setting franchise records for wins and GAA. Greiss was 6-6 in the playoffs with a 2.43 GAA, two shutouts and a .912 save percentage.

"After a tremendous season in Worcester and an outstanding playoffs, we are excited to have Thomas under contract for the next two seasons," General Manager Doug Wilson said in a statement Wednesday. "His development towards becoming an NHL goaltender has continued to progress. We were very impressed with the work ethic and dedication he has put forth and the results have shown in his play."

With no veteran reserve on the Sharks' roster following the departure of Brian Boucher, Greiss -- a third-round pick in the 2004 Entry Draft -- figures to have the first shot at backing up starter Evgeni Nabokov.

Karlsson, 25, spent most of last season with Malmo in Sweden's second-tier league, posting a 2.45 GAA and a .921 save percentage in 32 regular-season games. The 6-foot-6 native of Stockholm also played seven games with Sodertalje of the Swedish Elite League, compiling a 2.49 GAA and a .929 save percentage.

I've seen Greiss play and he's pretty solid, but probably not starting material just yet. I know of Karlsson but have never seen him play. He's a huge fucker though. Like Chara in net.
