Eagles make big mistake with Vick
Remember when Patriots owner Robert Kraft said that New England wasn't interested in Vick because they had, in his opinion, the best player in the world in Tom Brady and why would he ever want to take Brady off the field? Made sense to me. Probably made sense to McNabb as well, which is why no matter what he says publicly, I think this transaction creates an awkward situation for McNabb, and that's the last thing the team should be doing at this juncture with a championship caliber roster.

To truly understand why this creates an uncomfortable situation for McNabb, you have to understand how he is viewed by the Philadelphia fan base and the local media. As I wrote earlier this offseason, McNabb is chronically underappreciated in Philadelphia, despite all of the postseason victories he has brought to the City of Brotherly Love. I know he hasn't won a Super Bowl title, but neither did Dan Marino and he was pretty darn good. McNabb remains a somewhat polarizing figure in Philly. His status as the main man was tenuous as recently as last season, when he was benched in favor of Kevin Kolb for the second half of a game against the Baltimore Ravens.

1. Vick will improve the team's wildcat offense
on the down side his presence will be a major distraction. This will make McNabb's position as unquestioned number one QB less solid. On top of that they have upset a sizeable number of their fan base. So I really think this is a net negative for the team.

2. Michael Vick should have signed with the UFL or AFL or whatever...
...done LOTS of good deeds and in about a year people would have accepted him if it was SHOWN he really had changed. As it now, words are cheap, and there's still too much animosity, and rightly so. Huge distraction for the Eagles.

3. I had a couple of conversations earlier this week about Vick IRL and
the UFL seemed to be a logical fit. It would give name recognition to a new league, and give Vick a chance to get his skills back out of the large media glare.

7. Well, considering that Vick can really only play in Philly, that eliminates him from
the eight road games.

I think it was a horrible call on the Eaglet's part, but hey, that's fine by me!!

:D

8. Well, I have no idea why they brought him in. If they brought him in to be part
of gadget plays, maybe it will work. I can't see the "wildcat" option that the Dolphins ran last year working now. Everyone will be looking for it when he comes in.

I'm just as confused as everyone else as to why they would bring him in.

9. I read they really didn't even evaluate him, just decided to sign him...
...sort of sounds like charity to me.

10. I was wondering how much pressure Goddell put on the teams for someone to sign him
The Eagles signing him without even looking at him seems really strange. I think there was some arm twisting going on.

11. Tony Dungy.
The Vick signing is doomed for three reasons: 1) he won't have the skills anymore 2) the PR disaster for the Eagles and 3) McNabb's ego.

This takes the media heat off the Cowboys, which is what Dallas needs in the NFC East.
