Marlins reach 13 straight with 10-plus hits
MIAMI -- The Marlins' streak of consecutive games with double-digit hits survived Sunday's doubleheader.

After John Baker extended the run to 12 games with a fourth-inning double in Game 1 of a doubleheader, it continued in Game 2 when Jorge Cantu smacked a one-out RBI single in the seventh.

The Marlins ended up losing the nightcap, 7-3, despite putting up 13 hits. But Florida has now notched 13 consecutive games with 10 or more hits. Its previous high in that category was six straight from June 26-July 1, 2003.

"It's just a tribute to everybody building off each other," rookie Chris Coghlan, who finished the doubleheader 5-for-10, said about the offense. "Like I always preach, I think hitting is contagious.

Obviously the number of hits doesn't always translate to a win...but it usually does. And it sure shows how hot the bats are for them right now. The last time a team did this was the Sox back in '99. The record is 18 by Cleveland in 1925. There's 9 teams between 18 and 14 games, but everyone is from the 20's and 30's.

3. Chris Coghlan for Rookie of the Year
This kid is the real thing. Plus he is playing a position (LF) that he has never played before. He just recently had 2 or more hits in 8 consecutive games (a Marlins record). This could be the year again for the Marlins. What a great year to be a Marlins fan!!!

11. You Florida fans don't know the difference between a baseball team and an old car.

And did you know that the baseball team will be renamed The Miami Marlins when they move into their new stadium in 2011? Will the name change bring in any more fans? The domed stadium might.

13. I will agree with you about that. I was down there several years ago
and I would much prefer watching the bare titties on the beach than watching baseball players on roids...

8. Hurry up and pass the Phillies already!!
What the hell is taking so long?? You're still 4 1/2 games behind - 6 games back in the loss column.
If you don't do it - I'll have to silently cheer for a different team who will, like the Braves.

19. Marlins reach 10 hits again in 6-2 win over Astros
<snip>

"Florida reached 10 hits for the 14th consecutive game on Tuesday night. The way Ricky Nolasco pitched, the Marlins hardly needed them all.

The right-hander struck out 10 in his second complete game of the season, leading Florida to a 6-2 win over the Houston Astros on Tuesday night.

"We got the pitching we needed to get," Florida manager Fredi Gonzalez said. "I'm happier with that than I am with the 10 hits."

Florida's streak of 10-hit games is the longest since the 1937 St. Louis Browns reached the total in 15 straight, according to the Elias Sports Bureau."

20. Ricky was awesome last night
What a wonderful comeback for him. After the disaster last week against the Astros, it was so refreshing to see him pitch so well. He retired 23 batters in a row before Bourn got a hit in the bottom of the 9th. Beautiful game.

21. Marlins get 11 hits in loss to Astros.
<snip>

"HOUSTON (AP)—Michael Bourn had three hits, two stolen bases and two runs scored, and the Houston Astros beat the Florida Marlins 6-3 on Wednesday night.

The Marlins reached 10 hits for the 15th straight game, matching the longest streak since the St. Louis Browns had one that long in 1937, according to the Elias Sports Bureau."

22. A lot of mistakes last night
On the bases and in the field. Boy that Bourn is one good player for the Astros. He took at least 3 hits away from the Marlins last night.
