I think this is a must watch for any boxing, sports or even pop culture fan. Whatever you may feel about the man, after watching this documentary, you will have a new understanding (and for many respect) for this embattled man. This might be surprising to some, but Tyson is a very introspective man who takes full responsibility for his actions. I really enjoyed his recollections of growing up as a youth in Brownsville Brooklyn.
At the end of the film, I felt a bit saddened for a guy who went from nothing to the top of the world, but then back to nothing. However, it was heart warming to see that with all of his failures that he took comfort in being a dad and being a family man. Unfortunately, this documentary predates the death of his youngest child.

1. As I recall Mike Tyson knocked out 19 of his first 20 pro opponents in the 1st round |
|
And that is a record that is simply stunning.

His first knockout happened 8 seconds in to the match.

from when he was an amateur. He was an intense fighter then, too.

though that isn't his record.
In his first 19 fights, in which he was on the knockout streak, he had numerous one-round KOs. He also had two in the second round; two in the third; and one in each the 4th, 5th, and 6th rounds.
That still ain't bad.

I've long taken a positive stance regarding Mike Tyson, something that isn't always popular on DU. Or, in the general public.
I'm familiar with a lot of information about his early life, including things not detailed in this documentary. I'm not making excuses for his anti-social behavior, or attempting to justify the brutal things that he's done. But, there is a context, and he can only be understood in the context of having lived in an anti-social, often brutal, world as a child and youth.
