US Open tennis - Wozniacki-Oudin match. I know it was the US Open and Oudin is the
latest American hope, but the commentators could not have been more one-sided in their coverage.

These two young women (teenagers) put on a great match with Caroline Wozniacki handling the situation with grace, dignity and a powerful game.

After being subjected to high-fashion, dripping-with-jewelry divas like the Williams and others, it was a pleasure to see Wozniacki wearing the same totally appropriate and functional tennis outfit. Oudin was even less "fashionable", wearing a simple tanktop set.

Now, they both may turn into divas as they become older and more successful. But, for now, they were the best show on TV last night.

...and doesn't it embarrass us Americans to hear these athletes from other countries speak so well in "our" language?

2. Well, it is hard to argue against that sentiment. But her grunting is the lone strike
against her, IMO.

Neither Wozniacki nor Oudin did too much of that. And the oral outbursts were more from exertion rather than a "chi" sort of disruptive tactic thing.

My wife and I were watching and both used the words/phrases "adorable" and "damn cute" to describe Caroline's dress. Unfortunately,, sex appeal is a factor in sports, especially in reference to female athletes. The players last night managed to be attractive without going to the diva extreme.

3. I think Caroline is a success story in herself...lower ranked, having posted
some big wins of late...I hope she does well. Her story is similar to Melanie's, but Melanie got all the attention because she's an American.

4. The talking heads did make a few references to it being her (Caroline) first venture into
the rarefied air of a major quarter-then-semi final.

Stars do drive the tennis game, maybe even more than in other sports. And we have gotten tired of the old-blood (yeah, those aged 20-somethings) - these new faces on the scene bode well for the sport.

5. And the media was desperate for an AMERICAN success story...
...the Williams sisters won't be around much longer, US men's pretty much sucks. That said, I am often embarrassed by the fans at the US Open, we know they're New Yawkers, so they're fools and loud-mouths, but even still...

11. Its too bad many fans take the Williams sisters for granted
I think they are probably the most exceptional story in all sports.

12. ditto to that Uzybone....
but you'll almost never hear congrats to the sisters outta Carillo. They shouldn't do so MUCH outside of tennis, ie. fashion design, they should concentrate on tennis and they could win more titles blah, blah, blah. I usually mute the sound when she's announcing. :puke: and I do love how all the announcers fall all over themselves over maria then she's outted and they continue to talk of how great she is. Yeah, great at losing

7. She'll be in the final...and she's had no attention on her the entire
time...she'll be feeling no pressure and might just win it all.

8. Yeah, she should beat Wickmayer
Wickmayer's a good story too. Saw her play down in New Haven. She made it through qualifying into the second round (Round of 16, 32 player main draw).

10. I love the women's game.
It's so unpredictable. Quite a few can win going into a major.

16. There is a lot of parity, but Serena can stink all year and then win
the next major...there are quite a few women I'd like to see win at least one.

18. Ah, what a joyous occasion that was.
I so want to believe the story about Varitek, and how he supposedly pissed A-Roid off by saying the Sox don't throw at .240 hitters.
