USA somehow manages to win CONCACAF |
|
salvaging a draw with Costa Rica at home, with about 50 nanoseconds remaining in stoppage time :eyes: , while Mexico can't get it done against the Trinis, settles for a draw, and winds up second.
Meanwhile Honduras gets by El Salvador, forcing the Ticos into the two-lg playoff vs. Uruguay. ?Como se dice en espanol EPIC FAIL?
So, do they crash out in the group stage again, or what? I doubt that Brazil, Italy, etc. are losing any sleep tonight...

1. Crashing out in the group stage is way better than not going at all. |
|
Anything the USA achieves beyond that is a bonus as far as I'm concerned. We simply don't have the talent yet to win the thing.

3. It's better than what around 180 countries do. |

6. Honestly, it's true for pretty much every country. |
|
I know that Brazil, Germany, and Italy generally have higher expectations, but getting out of the group stage is a big deal.

4. The US team is very talented |

And can go far if they play well and get some breaks.

Down 0-2 at half time, and they came back fighting. They attacked nearly constantly, and it paid off.
Sad to see their efforts dismissed here... but oh well... it's the US.

So, they should do just fine in South Africa.

12. What are the US odds of getting a #1 seed? |
|
They are still slim, IIRC, but better as the CONCACAF champions. The victory over Spain will help; a win over Brazil would have been huge.
