Shanahan turns down the Redskins...
http://nfl.fanhouse.com/2009/10/19/sources-mike-shanahan-turned-down-redskins-coaching-job/?ncid=txtlnkusspor00000002

Sources have confirmed that the Washington Redskins recently tried to hire Mike Shanahan to replace Jim Zorn and Shanahan declined. The sources would not rule out the possibility that Shanahan would reconsider in the offseason.

"Shanahan told the franchise there was little he could do in the middle of the season for them and that changing coaches during the season in the NFL rarely works,'' a Redskins management source told FanHouse. "Several people that Dan Snyder trusts have suggested, if he makes a move, he should turn it over to secondary coach Jerry Gray. That could still happen.

"We are trying to give Jim every chance to turn it around. The move to Lewis is to take more off Jim's plate, especially the play-calling, because it is not working, and that is where Jim is spending much of his time. Now he can coach the entire team. Let's see where that gets us.''

Reports surfaced Sunday night, after Washington's embarrassing 14-6 home loss to Kansas City, that Lewis would take over the Redskins' play-calling duties. The team confirmed that change Monday.

The Redskins currently sit at 2-4 and in last place in the NFC East, with losses to Detroit, Carolina and Kansas City -- teams that have four total wins combined. Washington hosts Philadelphia next Monday night prior to a Week 8 bye, and has just one game remaining against a team with a record currently under .500.

1. Would Shannyhan lose his contract with the Broncos?
They owe him millions.

6. You're right.
Bowlen has to pay him 20 million (or the difference) no matter what.

Shanny will just relax in his huge new 35,000 sq ft house with the 3,000 sq ft garage.

4. Do you know the difference between Al Davis and Danny Snyder?
Al Davis has Super Bowl Rings and has built a championship team.

Danny Snyder's team makes you harken back to the Norv Turner era.

12. It was 2004 and 2005 he was with the Raiders.
He won a total of nine games. He's an offensive genius, I tell you!

He was an assistant at USC and then the LA Rams before joining the Cowboys. Talk about falling into a dream job!

11. Wasn't that about the time that Al Davis was slipping into senility??
... but Norv Turner was an offensive genius!

Shit, I could be an offensive genius with the team the Cowboys had in the early 90s!

9. Al's last ring was in 1983.
They haven't had a winning record since 2003. He's a relic -- football has passed him by.

15. Heh! Given the racist nature name of the Snyder's team, Limbaugh would be
a perfect match as owner of the team!

At least the origin of it.

17. I didn't say the name was Snyder's choice, just that it would be a perfect
fit for Limbaugh.

Something along the lines of the "magic redskins"??

20. 92% of native americans do not find the name offensive.
http://www.shortnews.com/start.cfm?id=43211

A new University of Pennsylvania's National Annenberg Election Survey shows that only 9% of Native Americans polled are offended by the name of US football team, the Washington Redskins. 90% said they were OK with the name.

Little difference was found between men and women on the issue. The number of "offended" increased slightly among those with college degrees (13%), and those who identified themselves as liberals (14%).

Team owner George Preston Marshall changed the name from Braves to Redskins in 1932 to honor Native American and head coach, William "Lone Star" Dietz. Controversy has risen over the political correctness of the team's name.

21. Didn't this forum have this arguement just a couple of months ago.
I think it ended up a draw.

Just like people are not offended by being called "yellowskins" or "greenskins"

Yeah.

19. as long as the redskins coach has no more poower than a figurehead
no self respecting major coach will ever agree to work for them. you can't expect someone like Shananhan to agree to a deal where he has no control over selecting assistant coaches and free agents.

22. Who would want that job?
Snyder treats the Redskins like a fantasy football team. The coach has no power. Sort of like Al Davis without the glasses with chains.
