Fade Pattern From Moss
http://www.boston.com/sports/football/patriots/articles/2009/12/14/fade_pattern_from_moss/

I've cut a few choice paragraphs...the meat of what some people think of Moss.

_____________________________

Some players would take that kind of punishment as a wake-up call, and show up big on Sunday. If you thought Moss would, you need a history lesson.

The rap on Moss has never changed. When the going gets tough, he packs it in. He was forced to do that by the coaches earlier in the week. And yesterday, the Panthers knew they could make him do it again.

“We knew he was going to shut it down,’’ Carolina cornerback Chris Gamble said after the game. “That’s what we wanted him to do . . . he’d just give up a lot - slow down, he’s not going deep, not trying to run a route. You can tell body language.

“I know everyone who plays against him, they can sense that. Once you get into him in the beginning of the game, he shuts it down a little bit.’’

20-10

BTW: Randy is 6th in the league in receiving.--- Steve Smith is seventh.

Oh and one more thing... Wes Welker had 10 receptions for 105 yards. More than all receivers in the game. Does anyone think that Welker would be that successful if Randy wasn't on the other side. NO.

2. New England throwing Randy Moss under the boss?
I think this overblown and if Moss went through the same conditions as Adalius Thomas with the snow and the cars in the road I give him a pass. I love how Thomas said (paraphrasing)'It's not like the Jetsons where I can fly over the cars'

I didn't watch the game so I have no idea how many times Moss was targeted and I saw the drop replayed over and over. Well Fitzgerald drops passes too that you never see make ESPN.

3. The biggest difference between Moss and Fitzgerald though
Is I have NEVER seen lack of effort on Fitzgerald's part..When he drops the ball its not cause he's not trying. With Moss it was quite evident on at least one drop that he wasn't trying particularly hard. He was "taking a play off" as he's admitted to doing...

11. Well, he might have been "good" at what he did...
...or maybe only "decent." :P

6. I can't see that much into it

Sometimes a drop is just a drop. I really can't tell the difference between lack of effort or full effort. On the replay Moss was where he needed to be on the route and had the ball delivered to him he just didn't catch it which happens to all receivers. I'll have to look at the replay again.

I really don't know what to make of the "play off" thing but I will say when I played WR at Sinagua in High School, 9th grade. You'll run full speed on several routes and when they play isn't designed to you like a sweep to the left where I'm on the right side I go through the motions like 75%. Keep your energy up for the whole game. Also there are games where I have been frustrated and it effects everything else and a drop or fumble intensifies that.

Tough for me to say anything about lack of effort. The amount of laps you have to run, film study, practice, etc someone has to put in to likely finish in every receiving category behind Jerry Rice. It really does take a lot of effort.

7. I'm referring to what is called "alligator arms" I think
where the arms are not extended out to make a catch. Usually a WR does this when they are going over the middle and are being afraid of being hit. Sometimes, with Moss it really looks like he just doesn't want to stretch out and make the effort to catch a ball, that could possibly be catchable. And considering he's basically admitted to not trying from time to time, this interpretation is valid, I think.

First one was a simple drop meaning the ball was in his hands but fell incomplete <--those happen to every receiver, every year. The interception it certainly looks like he could have prevented that int even thought it was away from him.

My theory was that he got frustrated early with the fumble and it affected his play throughout the game. He's having a great season and he'll be back next game. :)

Edit/Memory was off but I could see what you and others might be saying with the interception.

14. Yeah, it's not like the guys on that show are completely worthless.
Woody Paige and his irrational hatred of all things Boston, Jay Mariotti and his amazing ability to be wrong about everything...the only good commentators on that show are Ryan and J.A. Adande.

15. Only Jay and Adande were on of the 4 you mentioned....
...we'll see how Moss does this weekend...sometimes guys are just off some games, but then again, Moss does have a history of sulking when things are 100% going right.
