out of the park baseball... great fantasyish (but more fun) game!
http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/ootp/

We can set up a DU league and play each other online... very hands on.

If we can, we can start maybe next weekend.

I'll crosspost in the lounge and the baseball group.

3. excellent!
btw... I like the Dodgers... they are my favorite NL team... and second favorite overall.
I hope Gagne is back and fast... except for a 3 day flu when the sox come to town! :D

I'll be out of town until Friday... so you guys won't here anything on this from me until then... but I think it'd definitely be a cool idea.

Don't forget though, it is quite expensive, but only a one time price!

7. Basically, it's virtual General Manager
http://www.ootpdevelopments.com/ootp/corefeatures.php

Out of the Park Baseball 6 – As Real As It Gets
From unrivaled customization, to unparalleled statistical depth and accuracy, the Out of the Park series has it all. Out of the Park truly creates a virtual baseball world that allows the user to play the national pastime solo or multiplayer, and with players real or fictional. It's your job as the virtual GM or field manager (or both!) to build a baseball juggernaut and lead your players to victory. At your disposal are all the tools a real-life general manager has: trade with other GMs, sign free agents, draft amateurs and nurture their growth and potential in your minor league system. However, the Out of the Park universe is always changing and, just as in real life, the general manager has to deal with injuries (sometimes career-ending), as well as aging and ultimately the retirement of his current players. Like real baseball, the Out of the Park universe is dynamic and the successful GM will need the ability to adapt when needed - do you have what it takes?

Here's more on the features of OOTP

Statistical depth and accuracy - it's all here! From common statistics like Earned Run Average and Batting Average to sophisticated measurement like Component ERA, Bill James Total Average, Secondary Average and much more! Over 40 ratings and attributes and more than 1,000 statistical categories are tracked for each player.

With The Baseball Archive, a freeware database, you can import any player, team or complete historical season from 1901 to the present into the game. Out of the Park Baseball will generate the league structure and player ratings based on the historical data using intelligent player modeling algorithms. You can even import actual rookies in successive seasons, essentially allowing you to replay the entire history of baseball!

Complete customization over your league's setup! Start with historical players imported from The Baseball Archive, generate all fictional players, initialize your league with a fantasy draft, play a historical season replay or play in perpetual career mode...The options are endless!

The Era Manager lets you tailor your game to emulate baseball statistics as they occurred during certain historical epochs of the sport. From the Deadball Era up through Modern Baseball, your selections will affect statistical output, typical rotation sizes, frequency for pitching changes and other factors. You can even define your own eras.

Rare plays that happen as often as in real life. You'd be lucky if you see an unassisted triple play by the second baseman - but you could. Realistic injury modeling - more than 100 different injury types, all based on players' durability ratings. OOTP is a mouse-driven, Windows application that lets you run full-screen or in windowed mode for multi-tasking. Stylish play-by-play dialogue, comprehensive league and team reporting, sortable league leaders board and much, much more! Change the look of the game by creating your own customized skin, or use one of the three that come with the game.

Out of the Park even includes a role-playing manager mode where you can sign a contract to become the field manager for one of the teams in your league. In this mode you have the added pressures of dealing with ownership as well as issues in your personal life (marriage, divorce, children, etc.). Maybe someday you may manage your own son!

Financial Model

From your team's front office you can view a complete financial history of your team (in addition to annual won-loss records, division standings and postseason records). League-wide financial reports display the top-paid players, league attendance figures and much more!

The free agency period lasts a full month in the offseason. You will find that players will take their time in considering contract offers and wait for the "right" offer to come along before signing. You might also encounter players who don't care for your organization, and will decline to even enter in negotiations! New "promotional days" help you put fans in the seats. You can put your "commissioner's hat" on and custom design the promotions that are available to you and other general managers in the league. Remember, promotions cost extra - but the payoff could be higher attendance and gate revenues. The fan interest meter measures the "buzz" surrounding your team, and can change on a daily basis depending on your team's performance. Computer managed teams will adjust their ticket prices in conjunction with "fan interest" and the team's current won/loss record.

Out of the Park Baseball's financial model provides a deep challenge for budding general managers. Your computer opponents are shrewd in their financial dealings, trade negotiations and in navigating the free agent market. Also included is an optional salary cap, which you can experiment with to try and bring parity to your league and help small market teams become more competitive and profitable.

The Action on the Field

Complete play-by-play including foul balls, wind-blown homeruns, pitch types and even pitch velocity. Nothing beats the feeling of watching your closer blow a 100 mph fastball past your opponent's best hitter for the final out of the game! Hear the crowd roar when your slugger takes one deep, and hear them "boo!" when your 3rd baseman muffs a ground ball. And, when you begin a late game rally to try and take the lead, hear the crowd yell, "Charge!" to show their support. Watch your team wait out a rain delay and then slip on the wet grass when the game ensues. The play-by-play will even inform you of cold and hot streaks, player milestones, legue leaders and much, much more!

Out of the Park Baseball's Out of Town Scoreboard simulates other games while you are playing your game. You'll never miss a beat during the pennant race! Even the scheduled game time will come into play, as "early game" results are already in while the "late games" won't begin to until after you have started your game.

Finally, think the ump missed the call? Tell him about it by arguing with him. But be careful - you might get tossed out of the game and have to watch from the clubhouse!

Multiplayer Options

Participating in an online baseball league has never been easier or more fun. Play your home series at home and upload the results to the commissioner! The Master HTML Export lets you create an entire website for your league with a single mouse click. You can also easily export any report in the game as a single HTML file (or print the file, or save as a text file). A sophisticated import/export feature allows league commissioners to simply upload team files containing other league participants' roster and changes. No more tedious, manual entries! Commissioner password protects the vital parts of your league, such as the player editor and league structure. Individual teams can also be password protected.

Online league commissioners and general managers can use FTP (file transfer protocol) functionality that is built directly into the game's interface. This allows both commissioners and league participants to upload and download league files without ever leaving the game. Commissioners can instantly upload every team's files with a single click. And since the FTP instructions are built directly into the game engine, no 3rd-party software is needed for file transfers - just an active Internet connection! If you thought file transfer was easy, wait until you hear about Out of the Park Baseball's HTML reporting and web site creation features! In seconds, you can generate a complete, statistics-rich web site, complete with an amazing assortment of hyperlinks. Want to see the complete history of the player that's leading your league in homeruns? Just click on him and his HTML card appears on your screen showing his complete history from the day of his initial amateur draft to the present.

Sophisticated Player Rating & Modeling System

In addition to traditional ratings, Out of the Park features multiple rating sets, allowing you to customize the level of information you see about a particular player. For the ultimate experience, you can even turn ratings off and rely only on the statisitical output of the game to make your decisions.

Want to find out how your highly-touted first round pick from six seasons ago is doing today? Check out the Player History section. You can view all trades and free agent signings involving the player, where the player was drafted in the amateur draft (and by whom), and in addition, memorable performance feats such as hitting streaks, single-game HR and RBI records and much more!

Handle your players with care - they're more than just a bunch of numbers! In addition to athletic skills, your players have ratings for personality and character attributes, including leadership, consistency, knack for performing in clutch game situations and desire to play for a winning team. You can make your simulation even more vibrant by importing player photos into the game. Photos can be assigned to every player in the game, and they appear on both player cards and the in-game screens.

Analytical tools and statistics help you measure player performance even more precisely. The player cards track the development of a player's ERA and/or batting average, throughout the season, using cumulative performance charts. Additionally, player-versus-team statistics are tracked for every player in the league, as well as streaks and personal bests.

League "backup" and "restore" features are built directly into the game interface, making it easier to backup and archive your league files. Real-time, league leader boards are displayed and hyperlinked throughout the interface and even during individual games, allowing you to keep tabs on the league's top performers during both played and simulated games. Additionally, the leader boards are filtered when viewing team rosters to display only the selected team's statistical leaders.

Finally, Out of the Park Baseball allows you to completely customize the number of rounds in the offseason Amateur Draft. The game will adjust the number of prospects created based on the number of teams in the league as well as the number of rounds you specify.

Integrated Email Message System

Keep on eye on that envelope in the lower right-hand corner of your roster screen - it may be an incoming trade offer! Or, you could be getting notice that your star third baseman is demanding to be traded!

These are all part of the Out of the Park Baseball Message System, a convenient way to get important information and stay on top of your team. You will also receive player development from the minors, player reactions to contract offers, injury reports, advice from your coaches and scouts, and perhaps even some interesting "off-the-field" news as well...

Career Mode

Players age, their talents develop then diminish and they retire while rookies enter the league through the amateur draft and start their own careers. Exhaustive research by the Out of the Park Developments team has led to algorithms that truly simulate a ballplayer's career. Some will burn out early, while others will play into their 40's. Does that 35 year old first baseman deserve a new multi-million dollar contract? Is he "over the hill" or does he have a few years left in him? Ultimately, it's your decision, but prepare for the consequences no matter what you decide.

Exhaustive financial system. Free agency, contract negotiations, ticket pricing, broadcast and merchandising deals, revenue sharing, and more. Three-tiered minor league system with player development reports and full minor league statistics and won-loss records. Will the young southpaw you selected with the #1 pick in last year's draft pick make it to "The Show", or tear his rotator cuff and have to call it a career before even pitching in the majors?

Tweaker's Heaven

Create multiple, fully-customizable leagues. Define the structure of the leagues, city names, franchise names, schedule and match-ups, minor league affiliate names, team logos, league award and championship series names, stadiums...if it has to do with baseball, you can tweak it!

The flexible player editor allows you to create, delete and/or edit any player attribute. You can also create your own fantasy players from scratch. The league totals editor gives you the ability to tweak overall league tendencies to be consistent (or not - if you choose!) with the era you are emulating.

Comprehensive stadium editor allows you to alter field dimensions and park factors for existing parks and stadiums, or brand new parks that you create from scratch. You can even import your own stadium images for use in the game.

Most aspects of the Out of the Park Baseball financial engine can be tweaked as well, from the revenue sharing model to ticket prices and team cash reserves. Set your own criteria for the ultimate award of them all - induction into the Out of the Park Baseball Hall Of Fame!

Team Management

Team Management. Extensive roster, lineup and depth-chart management options. Build your pitching staff, create and save situational lineups, manage depth charts and starter substitution percentages, demote players, recall them, have them learn a new position in spring training, manage your injuries and sign free agents. Or, automate all or parts of team management by having the game's artificial intelligence handle some of the management chores. Then, sim a day, week, month, even years at a time! You control the level of hands-on management YOU want. For the ultimate experience, manage your team's games and decide when to bunt, steal, hit & run, shift the infield/outfield, pitch around your opponent, intentional walk, wave in your runners, manage the bullpen and more. For fast-simmers, you can even tell the AI to favor certain strategies for the team all the way down to the individual player level. Tell the computer manager to give your fleet-footed 2nd baseman the "go" sign, while telling the other plays on the team to play it safe!

Reports & Statistics

Over 40 player ratings and more than 1,000 statistical categories are tracked for each player. This includes standard and advanced statistical categories, situational statistics (home/away, week, month, close & late, etc.), splits (versus RHP/RHB, LHP/LHB), streaks, personal records and more. You can even view your player's complete minor league and postseason statistical history.

Real-time statistical updates - players' season statistical totals are updated and displayed during the course of the game. Expanded league and team history database gives you complete statistical access to every single player in your league - even retired ones. Additionally, historical league and individual team records are maintained, and include player and year set/broken.

Player of the Week and Player of the Month awards, major performance awards at the end of the season and All-Star selections. Scouting reports on every player in the league (including individual star ratings), from league MVP down to the backup catcher on the Class A minor league team.

At the league level, complete statistical reports are available for each team. Team batting, pitching and fielding statistics are a click away as are team rankings in the "Power Poll" and a ranking of all farm systems in the league.

10. OOTP is an awesome game
Edited on Sun Apr-24-05 09:14 AM by Dave Sund
The next one's coming out sometime next fall... and it's being totally reworked by the makers of Championship Manager.

Just a suggestion: Customize the game a bit. http://www.simcentral.net has some very good files (rosters, photos, logos, etc.) to make the game even better.
