Why Olympic snowboarder Torah Birch rocked the halfpipe.

I saw it right away. On the first run, Torah entered the half pipe near the top, all the others entered it near the middle. On the second run, everyone entered the halfpipe at or near the top, just about everybody except Torah crashed.

What the hell is wrong with people competing in a global sport at a global sporting competition? It was a hotly contested medal and it was fun to watch. What defines which sport is Olympic quality to you?

Damn shame she was injured before the finals and had to pull out. She was astonishing in the qualifying runs in the afternoon, air time and tricks more like one of the top male competitors. The announcers couldn't believe it, and neither could I. She had the third highest qualifying score but in terms of explosiveness and athleticism there was no one who could touch her, including Torah or Kelly Clark.

NBC didn't make a big deal out of her absence before the prime time finals because she wasn't a favorite going into the Olympics. They mentioned it only briefly. But anyone who watched the afternoon show realized what a loss it was to the competition when she was injured. I think she was briefly hospitalized.
