Eagles release RB Westbrook
http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2010/football/nfl/02/23/eagles-westbrook.ap/index.html?eref=sihp

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- The Philadelphia Eagles have released two-time Pro Bowl running back Brian Westbrook.

Team officials announced the move Tuesday.

A former All-Pro, the dynamic Westbrook led the league in yards from scrimmage in 2007 with 2,104 yards. He rushed for 1,333 yards and accounted for 12 touchdowns that season.

But he spent much of last season on the sidelines. Westbrook missed eight games with a pair of concussions and an ankle injury.

Westbrook had only two touchdowns in 2009.

He has rushed for 5,995 yards in eight seasons in Philadelphia and caught 426 passes for 3,790 yards. The 30-year-old Westbrook has accounted for 68 touchdowns rushing, receiving and on punt returns.

..snip

Not really surprised by this move.

1. heh, I made the mistake of drafting him in the first round one year in fantasy football
never made THAT mistake again. Glad to see the Eagles have finally recognized his fragilness as well.

2. Bad week for stud running backs
LT (the San Diego one, not the Giants LB) is gone, too.

http://www.signonsandiego.com/news/2010/feb/22/chargers-release-tomlinson-lock/

LaDainian Tomlinson stands about 8 feet tall in the lobby of the Chargers’ Murphy Canyon headquarters.

Yet now, officially, he is a Charger no more.

The team released Tomlinson yesterday after nine record-breaking, franchise-remaking seasons. And the fact that the move was long expected — it had, in fact, become a certainty — did not make it any less seismic or gut-wrenching.

To avoid confusion with the Giants legend, I always called him LTD: a classy ride, indeed. :(

4. A sad day in Philly.
Our greatest running back ever and one of the most lethal weapons in the league over his career. A damn shame he didn't get the ring he deserved. It was not an unexpected move considering his injuries and his $7.25 million price tag but it is still sad to see him go. Thank you Rocket Man.

8. Wilbert was great.
He's still second though. He couldn't catch or return the way Westy could.
