Pole Dancers Push To Compete In Next Olympics......
I don't know if NBC is behind this for ratings - but check out the link below. Pole dancing is being petitioned for a test event at the 2012 Olympics.

Summer, of course. Have you ever licked a frozen pole?

5. Given that they allow "Water Ballet", how could they reject "Pole Dancing"?
Water Ballet is complete and utter BULLSHIT.
Any "Committee" that calls it a "sport"
abrogrates all right to reject any other activity
from sharing the same definition.

Aren't the Olympics supposed to be about PHYSICAL prowess?
Show me a Gold-medal-winning "Water Ballerina"
who can pick up a dollar bill with her asscheeks.

19. given that the exertion to do 'water ballet' often depletes you to the
point of passing out, I would say water ballet qualifies as a sport. I don't have to like something to enjoy it as a sport. given pole dancing's dubious reputation, I don't see it among the olympians.

6. Look up some videos of competitions
They're more athletes than many of those already competing in the Olympics.

Its actually a form of gymnastics.

8. This is the kind of story Bill O Reilly delves into.
He lathers himself into a puritanical outrage over scantily dressed young women acting sexual.

14. This won't happen
The IOC will never agree to this. The Olympics are an image, a brand, and what they try to represent would be destroyed by allowing an event most people view as somewhat pornographic. I have no idea what excuse they will use to deny it, but deny it they will.

15. I think this could work, minus the eroticism aspect.
It really could easily be included in gymnastic competitions. Having a legit pole dancing sport isn't going to close down strip clubs and having strip clubs include pole dancing doesn't negate it as a sport any more than, say, Playboy negates Vogue just because they're both magazines that feature women.
