UCONN Champs Bask in White House Ceremony.

President Obama welcomed the NCAA champion University of Connecticut women’s basketball team to the White House on Monday.

"I want to point out: This team has not lost a game since I was elected president,” Obama said, congratulating the Huskies on their second straight undefeated season.

Last year, the team shot a few hoops with the president out on the White House basketball court. And the players told Obama they’d be back in 2010.

“I believed them,” he said.

2. Obama: UConn best team in all of sports
<snip>

"President Obama and the Connecticut women's basketball team seem like old friends by now. With good reason. Obama, who welcomed the two-time national champions into the East Room of the White House this afternoon, explained:

"I want to point out this team has not lost a game since I was elected president," he said. UConn, of course, just completed its second consecutive undefeated season.

It's the rare national women's sport that captivates men who love sports, even now, nearly 40 years after Title IX became law. It happened in 1999 with the Women's World Cup soccer tournament in the United States. It happens on occasion with women's tennis, especially when the Williams sisters are playing for a major title. It occurs with some Olympic sports. And it's happening with UConn hoops.

"I was telling them Michelle and I work out in the morning -- see, we got a little gym here in the White House -- and we just watch 'SportsCenter,'" Obama told his East Room audience. "I know you'll be surprised that we don't watch the news shows. But this is really true. You know, during the entire season, I just kept on repeating, and I truly believe, this was the best team in all of sports, any sport, any gender, by far."

3. He's right...no one comes even close to dominating their sport like
the UCONN women did the past two seasons.
