Eye-Opener: Venus Williams' corset-dress too ooh-la-la?
Good morning. And let's beging the day with a famous French saying: "Ooh-la-la."

Those were the words on many lips on Day 1 of the French Open as Venus Williams played in an outfit that was straight out of Moulin Rouge.

The corset-style dress black and lacy, with red trim, and had some see-through effects working. And to be fair, it wouldn't have drawn any notice at all . . . if it had been worn by a can-can dancer.

The French, being French, naturally sent some whistles raining down on Williams, who said the design was "about illusion." Oh yeah, and she did win, 6-3, 6-3 against Patty Schnyder.

4. Yeah, I'm getting sick of this entire women's game when all they
do is try to outfashion or shock the others...the women's game never needed it...for years it was more popular than the men's game.

12. They don't all do it
But the Williams sisters would prefer to win and piss everyone off at the same time.

5. I'd say that's not appropriate equipment
Whether it's legal or not.

6. The outfit is inappropriate for the occasion/event. She claims to be seriously religious, and
I kind of believe her, so the outfit seems all the more inappropriate. Must women be sexually alluring ALL the time?

It sends a lot of the wrong messages. I remember when I played high school tennis the pressures girls had to look good while playing. In Va.Beach in the summer. "Tennis jewelry," etc. Ugh!

8. She's been wearing that type of outfit throughout the spring season.
She wore this one at the Sony Ericcson Open in Miami:

I give it two .

9. All I could think of when I saw it was the Can-Can theme
But the Williams' way has always been to either act as if they lost because they were sick/injured, whine about how mistreated they are, or try to distract their opponents. Oh, I forgot, offer to beat up the official.

Just put on a normal outfit and play the goddamned game.
