Official: UT, Tech, OU, OSU to the Pac-10, but Aggies “sitting on the fence”

A highly-placed official from a Big 12 school confirmed Friday that Texas, Texas Tech, Oklahoma and Oklahoma State will join the Pac-10 Conference once formal offers are made to them, but said that Texas A&M officials remain on the fence between joining the Pac-10 or the SEC.

“The decision has been made,” the official told the American-Statesman. “We’re bringing everybody to the Pac-10 but A&M.”

The official said the Aggies have a 72-hour timetable to decide whether to accept the Pac-10’s offer. The official also said those formal offers could be made over the weekend.

The Texas board of regents have called an 11 a.m. meeting next Tuesday, and a formal announcement is expected later that day. Regents at Texas Tech also will meet on Tuesday, at 2 p.m....

Their greed brought this about, they can't share fairly, and they whine when they don't get their way. Now, after fourteen years of extracting the maximum amount of cash they can from the Big XII, they decide to destroy it completely.

Wait until they start demanding things their way and taking an inordinate share of money and resources.

The Big XII is the second conference the Texas teams have broken up, are you ready for the PAC 10 to be the third?

After reading them, I'm more of wait and see approach regarding them but I'm still a little excited.

5. The actual sport side of the deal will be fun, don't get me wrong.

But the Texas teams are all about the money. Wait for it, they will play nice for a couple of years, then start demanding more than their share of revenue, wanting championship games and tourneys played in Dallas, etc. Once they've sucked the PAC 10 dry, they'll move on.

I was happy to see them boost the Big 8 conference in '96, thought it was a great thing. About five years ago I started thinking that they were the worst thing that could have happened, and I was right. No more Big XII, Big 8, a proud tradition gone, killed by the greed, the same greed that killed the old SW conference.

I'm from Missouri, and I'm thinking that perhaps MO, KS, KSU, ISU and a couple of others should reconstitute the Big 6, start over again. But sadly, we're probably all going to scatter to the wind.
