Joe Morgan and Joe Miller canned from Sunday Night Baseball on ESPN..
BRISTOL, Conn.(AP) -- Jon Miller and Joe Morgan are out as announcers on ESPN's Sunday Night Baseball after 21 seasons.

"Over the last two decades, Joe went from Hall of Fame player to one of his sport's top analysts and Jon's Hall of Fame voice and tremendous knowledge of the game have connected with baseball fans everywhere," ESPN executive vice president Norby Williamson said in a statement Monday. "We owe them our deepest thanks for an outstanding body of work."

The network did not announce replacements.

Miller, the play-by-play voice, received the Baseball Hall of Fame's 2010 Ford C. Frick Award. Morgan, the color commentator, was a two-time National League MVP with the Cincinnati Reds. The second baseman was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1990.

Hmmm. To be replaced by Tim McCarver of Fox Sports News Network's team who will also be taking over broadcasting responsibilities on all NATIONAL and INTERNATIONAL broadcasts (all three) of MLB games. Heard today on the Fox Noise Channel.

1. God damn it.
Tim "the master of belaboring the obvious" McCarver, the single worst announcer in all of baseball.

God. Damn. It.

2. Wait. They're replacing one idiot with another??
Why don't they complete their triangle of Fail by hiring Dick "gets everything wrong" Stockton?

5. I actually wouldn't mind that

I would like to hear "Back back back back" whenever someone homers.

"The San Francisco baseball Giants"

I would be interested in the nicknames he comes up with. I'm not sure if he has any for current players but I distinctly remember "Mike Pepperoni Piazza".

I know I'll get flamed but he is entertaining to me. And I miss NFL Primetime

3. I liked Miller, but I got tired of Morgan. I bet they throw Buck in their somewhere or Kennedy.

6. Fine by me..
I rarely watch Sunday Night baseball anyway, unless the Giants are on. And this gives Miller a chance to do more games for the Giants. After all, he is their lead announcer, at least on radio, but with the Sunday gig he's hardly ever been around for weekends.

7. My paper said this:
Dan Shulman, long one of the network's most respected play-by-play men, is a likely replacement, with Bobby Valentine a candidate to work in the booth as well, according to The New York Times. Orel Hershiser presumably would stay on as an analyst.

8. Serves Miller right for his unsubstantiated accusation about the Rockies humidor!

10. I'm not a religious person, but THANK THE FRIKKIN LORD!!!
I thought Jon Miller was, at best, tolerable, but listening to Joe Morgan drone on and on about "the cutter" and nostalgia from 30+ years ago, while offering NO insight on the game itself made Sunday night baseball unwatchable. One night in the late 90's I was watching a game they did and technical difficulties took out the sound. It immediately became clear how much better the game was without them.

As long as McCarver and Chris Berman (who's shtick wore out 20 years ago) don't take over, it's all good. Hell, I'll take Bill Walton and Magic Johnson doing a baseball game over these clowns, at least they'll be good for a laugh.

11. You have some of the funniest posts in this forum
I don't even know what you are referring to because I rarely watch regular season baseball and that includes Sunday Night. I pretty much only watch the Rockies which isn't very often because I don't live in their market. I have watched games with Jon Miller though, just can't remember anything significant about him except for his voice. Though what you said had me at the sides, splitting with laughter.

I didn't say it at the time but your comments in the Barry Bonds documentary thread was among some of the funniest stuff said here on this forum.

14. Found it
I typed "hughee99" and "knowingly" in the search box.

4. I will not knowingly watch it.

However, if someone that I trust happens to turn it on without my knowledge, you can't blame me. Even if I suspect that something is not quite right, and that perhaps I might be, indeed, watching it, I won't ask any any questions. I'll just assume I'm watching the flax seed oil channel like I was told.

13. I like Miller and Morgan - especially Miller
A lot of times on Sunday evenings we're driving home, so we listen to them on the radio, and they are VERY good radio announcers. They really keep you on top of the action.

I can't bear Hershiser.

15. Wow. They get rid of that blowhard Morgan and replace him...
...with that blowhard McCarver? Talk about trading sideways....

Miller drove me nuts, Morgan needs to get over the fact that he wasn't half as good as he thought he was, but McCarver is a dreadful choice...
