NFL investigating Broncos for cheating against 49ers..

In an echo of the New England Patriots' "Spygate" scandal, the NFL is investigating whether a Broncos employee videotaped a San Francisco 49ers walk-through at London's Wembley Stadium four weeks ago.

Broncos chief operating officer Joe Ellis confirmed Friday that Steve Scarnecchia, the team's director of video operations, is on a "personal leave of absence" while team and league officials investigate the matter, but he declined to comment further. Scarnecchia did not travel with the team to San Diego last weekend and has not been at the team's Dove Valley complex this week.

The Broncos are actively working with the NFL on the investigation, according to team sources. Reached at his home Friday, Scarnecchia declined to comment. League spokesman Greg Aiello also declined to comment. Broncos coach Josh McDaniels could not reached for comment Friday afternoon.

McDaniels and Scarnecchia both previously worked for the Patriots, Scarnecchia between 2001 and 2005 and McDaniels between 2001 and 2009 before being hired by the Broncos. In 2007, the Patriots were found to have videotaped New York Jets coaches sending in signals during a game between the two teams, which is against league rules.

Very interesting. Particularly the fact that Scarnecchia and McDaniels both previously worked for the Patriots..

2. Broncos, McDaniels fined $50K each
The Denver Broncos and coach Josh McDaniels have been fined a combined $100,000 for the impermissible videotaping of a San Francisco 49ers practice prior to their London game of Week 8.

The team's video operations director, Steve Scarnecchia, has been fired for cause as a result of his taping the 49ers' walk-through practice at Wembley Stadium the day before the Broncos' 24-16 loss Oct. 31, the team announced in a release Saturday.

Scarnecchia filmed the drills of his own accord, later offering to show the video to McDaniels. But the coach declined, the Broncos said.

The NFL found that McDaniels, who was separately fined $50,000, had failed to promptly report the incident as required by league policy.

4. This is the NFL's pot prohibition
How do they really expect to enforce a rule that is so easily violated?

13. I Find It Weird Too
First, they've got MILES of film they can already view. Second, they can just send an expert on formations from their own staff in to see the walkthrough, but it's only an issue if they tape it?

Geez, teams will start renting time on satellites and then nobody could ever prove they taped a practice.

This is a silly rule.

14. If they do that against the Cardinals they'll crush AZ
Edited on Sun Nov-28-10 04:14 PM by JonLP24
If they put the ball in the QB hands the Cardinals have a chance. Then again, Arizona's pass defense is in the bottom 10. Hopefully San Francisco's pass D off-sets that.

12. Scarnecchia takes the fall.
http://www.boston.com/sports/football/articles/2010/11/27/broncos_coach_fined_for_taping_of_49ers_practice/?page=1
ENGLEWOOD, Colo.—The NFL fined the Denver Broncos and coach Josh McDaniels $50,000 each because the team's video operations director filmed a San Francisco 49ers practice in London last month, breaking league rules.
The NFL investigation determined Steve Scarnecchia took a six-minute video of the walkthrough and presented it that day to McDaniels. The coach declined to view it. Still, the NFL fined both the coach and team because the matter was not promptly reported, as required by the league.
Scarnecchia was also involved in the NFL's last videotaping scandal, dubbed Spygate. After the Patriots were caught videotaping New York Jets coaches sending in signals during a 2007 game, the league's investigation determined New England had violated rules over several seasons. Scarnecchia, who had left the Patriots by the time they were caught, was found to have taken part in the videotaping when he worked for the team in the early 2000s.

Scarnecchia was notified by Commissioner Roger Goodell that, as a repeat violator of league rules regarding the integrity of the game, he faced a hearing to determine if he would be banned from the NFL.
