1. As well he should
It's one thing when the camera catches an athlete swearing, it's another thing entirely when they look in the camera and scream "Fuckin' what!"

3. Bullocks 150,000 quid fine MAX
Edited on Mon Apr-04-11 02:58 PM by abqmufc
This is an unprecedented ban. Gerrard has done it, Lampard has done it, John fucking Terry does it once a year.

He should have be fined 150,000 quid for offending the soft ears of youngsters. It is Manchester United a club who sings "who the fuck are Man United" at every game...but is never fined for that!

Complete and absolute bias of the fooocking FA!!!!!!!!!!!!

5. Trust me I've followed United for 20 years and travel to Old Trafford annually I know the hisotry...
Edited on Mon Apr-04-11 03:11 PM by abqmufc
I also know the bias of the FA. What about John Terry poking other players wives....does he get a penalty for that? What about Steven Gerrard getting into two bar fights in 10 months...does he get fined for that? What about Joey Barton...and his jail time....did he get suspended for that?

I can also tell you when Gerrard scored the 2nd goal against United you can see him scream "foook yeah" as he kisses the camera. No fine, no ban.

You may hate Wayne Rooney, you may hate Manchester United, but the fact is no player in the history of English football has been given such a penalty for the word "Foooooock".

If people can say the word on the Grammys and Oscars and only pay a minimal fine for it, why does Wayne Rooney get a two match ban?

How is it every club in England has a supporters song with the word fooock but the FA never fines the club for songs being sung? Yet they will fine a club for a racist song....United's been fined for their bonfire song.

The only way Arsenal and Chelsea along with City can catch Manchester United is by the FA pulling this crap.....end of story.

6. All the stuff you mentioned was off the field.
And there is a difference between a celebration and Rooney's malevolence which is clearly audible.

Rooney gets the ban because his behavior is mean spirited and there's no question about what he says...twice!

Why are you excusing the fans "racist song?" Isn't there a significant difference between that and fans using the F word?

8. Not Gerrard saying the same word as he kissed the camera against United
Edited on Mon Apr-04-11 04:05 PM by abqmufc
Yeah the Terry issue I mentioned and the Gerrard issue (fighting) are off the field offenses, but to me it begs the question which should be monitored for the morality of the game? The f-word is dropped everywhere and in every game in the English game (I know I watch every game every week).

As for saying foook into a camera, a quick scan of video of games this season I can say Darren Bent, Gerrard, Terry, Drogba, Nani, Barry have all run up to a camera or mic and said foook after scoring.....but no fine or ban.

What I am saying is the FA will stop racism from anyone (player or supporter) they've stopped games, fined clubs for racist chants, etc (and that I DO support)...but the FA has never acted on the F-word being used except this one case. Never has the FA banned a player for foul mouth (when it is not direct at anyone on the pitch and rather just a method of showing joy/relief as what Rooney was doing), never has the FA or UEFA fined a club for its supporters having cuss words in those songs sung.....that is what I am saying, the FA has gone way over the top in doing this.

Rooney was NOT talking not to any player or ref on the pitch when he said what he said, he was a cocky arrogant call to arms for the club and its supporters to say "we are going to win the title." If it was directed to anyone specifically it was directed to the clubs who still assume they have a chance to win the title. I have seen United legend Roy Keane do this so many times and that is why it bothers me that all of sudden, 3/4 of the way into the season Rooney is banned.

It is a fact this has never been done (a ban for the f-word), but yet the FA doesn't wait till next term and start such rules at the first game and thus create a equal playing field for all, instead they do it 3/4 of the way through the season and enforce it not on the first time it has happened (such as Gerrard's second goal against United this season) but rather waits till Rooney does it.....yeah that is the FA showing their bias towards United.

Gerrard FK goal (I cannot find a better copy but I can hear someone saying f-ooock yeah).

10. Right and Terry lost the Captain armband for WC b/c of it....
Thus the FA is very inconsistent. They'll take the armband from Terry b/c of his off-field antics (an affair with Wayne Bridge's wife), but do nothing when Becks, Rooney or others (Ronaldo, Rio, Nani from the United camp) all love their secretary or lady of the night. And the FA does nothing when Terry is telling Americans at a London Airport "9/11 is what you deserved"......but they'll ban Rooney for saying a word that 99.9% of all people in the stadium (players, fans, coaches, and refs alike) will say during the match.

I've watch enough games in 20 years to know that all players say the word in a match and sometimes straight to a camera. I see even refs words mouth the F-word, but nobody but Rooney is banned (not even fined but banned).

Edited on Mon Apr-04-11 03:51 PM by abqmufc
I am not condoning Rooney's actions, off the field or on. But rather I am pointing out this is a witch hunt.

The FA talks about morality and all but seems to enforce it only when they want to.

Terry's actions were off field and Capello (with FA consent) decided to take the captain's armband away. Thus off field antics are punished when they are improper to the code of the FA, but not consistently.

Like I said, I can count on at least 10 players this year (including Nani, Drogba, Gerrard, and Terry) who have scored or teammate has scored and they are screaming the f-word into the camera or mic but no fine or ban was given.

If the FA wants to enforce a rule, why not start at the beginning of the season? Why wait till 3/4 of the way into the season, clearly that shows bias. Fine Rooney 150K quid and be done with it. That is the acceptable penalty, not a two match ban.

In the end, it won't stop United at all. Berba needed to find a way back into the starting lineup and the FA gave him the chance. We will still pick up the Prem title and knock Liverpool off their perch as the most titles in England, and I suspect we will take home the FA Cup as well. I don't think we will claim the treble though.

For those who follow Wazza closely know this is typical Wayne, fired up and pissed off. A bit of Keano if you ask me as I could easily see Roy Keane doing the same thing if he was playing in that game.

But b/c it is Wazza and b/c he plays for Manchester United Football Club he will be given the maximum fine.

"what, fucking what" priceless as he knew the title just was won on that day!

11. And who is the head of the FA???
So, Who’s The Chairman Of The FA?

The FA today confirmed that Wayne Rooney would serve a two match ban for swearing after he scored his hattrick against West Ham. Even journalists who salivate at the thought of slagging off Manchester United, like Oliver Holt, have admitted what a balls up the FA have made of this.
So, how is it possible that the FA could have got it so wrong?
Two words.
David Bernstein.
The former Manchester City board member and chairman was appointed the chairman of the FA at the start of the year. When leaving City he said: “I would like to thank our wonderful fans for their backing. They have been fantastic in their support, which has never wavered even during the most difficult times. I have been touched by their kindness and enthusiasm. I have supported Manchester City since I was a boy and I am desperate for us to succeed.”
We’ve seen just how desperate he is for that today, ensuring that Rooney is banned for the FA Cup semi-final, City’s final hope of silverware this season in their 35th year since they last won a trophy.
And you couldn’t make this up. The man who is so offended by Rooney’s swearing that he felt a two match ban was an appropriate punishment, worked for French Connection before joining City’s board and was behind their controversial range of t-shirts which included: “fcuk this”, “hot as fcuk”, “mile high fcuk”, “fcuk me”, “fcuk her”, “too busy to fcuk”, “fcuk football”, “fcuk fashion”, “fcuk fear” and “fcuk on the beach”.
What?! Fcuking what?

Now that is a real and fair judgement.....but hey the FA made a tough decision for SAF easy. Now the EPL's top goal scorer can find a way back into the starting 11. Berba gets to start 2 out of the next 3 games. Wayne is forced to rest on Saturday (and thus ensures he is 100% for next Tuesday's return leg against Chelsea). As for Wayne not playing at Wembley, he'll play at least once in a final at the stadium in May, if not twice.

BTW t-shirts for sale (the end result of all of it, someone gets rich)

12. Wayne Rooney's two-game ban upheld
LONDON -- Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney lost his appeal Thursday against a two-match ban for swearing into a television camera, ruling him out of the FA Cup semifinals against Manchester City.

Rooney said the punishment handed to him was "clearly excessive," but the Football Association's regulatory commission upheld the decision.

The England striker said he is "gutted" to miss Saturday's home game against Fulham in the Premier League and the semifinal match against City a week later.

"I am not the first player to have sworn on TV and I won't be the last," Rooney said. "Unlike others who have been caught swearing on camera, I apologized immediately. And yet I am the only person banned for swearing. That doesn't seem right.
<snip>

He didn't just curse in front of a camera. He was mean spirited and that's why he's going to sit.

13. The actual rule and FA rulebook.....so hypocritical
Edited on Thu Apr-07-11 12:58 PM by abqmufc
A link to the FA rule book:
http://www.thefa.com/TheFA/~/media/Files/PDF/TheFA/Rules_Regs/FA_Handbook_2010-11-v1.ashx/FA_Handbook_2010-11-v1.pdf

Wayne violated Law S6, here is a list of sending off offense, including S6.
FROM THE FA RULEBOOK:
"A player is sent off and shown the red card if he commits any of the following offences:
S1. is guilty of serious foul play.
S2. is guilty of violent conduct.
S3. spits at an opponent or any other person.
S4. denies the opposing team a goal or an obvious goal-scoring opportunity by deliberately handling the ball (this does not apply to a goalkeeper within his own penalty area).
S5. denies an obvious goal-scoring opportunity to an opponent moving towards the player's goal by an offence punishable by a free-kick or a penalty kick.
S6. uses offensive, insulting or abusive language.
S7. receives a second blue/yellow card in the same match.

ALSO FROM THE RULEBOOK- "Under these Standard Directions, The Association may charge a Player with Misconduct under the Rules of The Association for incidents on or around the Field of Play, excluding the tunnel area, that are caught on camera but not seen and dealt with by the Match Officials at the time. The Charge may be accompanied by an offer of the standard punishment that would apply to the offence had it been seen and reported by the Match Official(s) during the match."

WHERE DOES IT SAY YOU HAVE TO BE IN THE CAMERA'S FACE as so many say that is why he was banned? What it does say all players can (and now should be) found guilty via videotape evidence for breaking rule S6. It doesn't have to be heard, it can be reading the lips of a player. EVERY PLAYER IS GUILTY OF LAW S6 and thus should be banned for 2 games.

Yet people want to say Rooney is guilty....for what the fucking what sake it is done every 15 minutes on the pitch.

And if you are going to use "mean spirited" as your rationale, then how about Steven Gerrard waving the camera to come towards him and he kiss the camera in front of the Stetford End, for example? Is that not "mean spirited" (and he did say 'fuck yeah' after kissing the camera.)

14. I think you answered your own question.
He committed a sending off offence and the FA permits the use of video to catch offences not observed by the match officials.

The Gerrard example is completely different. That's unsporting behavior which is a caution at worst. Was Gerrards use of the F word offensive, insulting, or abusive? Not the way you described it. A player can get a send off for one bad word, but that's not how the game is officiated at the highest level.

I think it's time to accept that Rooney's behavior was wrong and move on.

15. It is the word that is offensive not "how it is used"
First, I am not saying he didn't violate the rule. I am saying he is the first person in the modern era to face ban for it.

Nowhere in the rule book does it say you can use f-ck this way and not in this manner. F-ck by definition is deemed offensive period and thus cannot be said anywhere on the pitch, that is how the FA has interpreted Law S6.

I can list 100s of times this has been done on and off the pitch (violation of Law S6). It further frustrates me b/c off the pitch behavior falls into the FA's code of conduct which also would imply to John Terry's actions of his affair with Wayne Bridges wife, and Steven Gerrard's bar fight, and yes Wayne hooker love (and Ronaldo's and Nani's and Rio's) are all violation and subject to punishment. I mean if we are handing out morality lessons lets address those things (and maybe Joey Barton's jail time too).

Yes Gerrard's use was in violation of Law S6, #1 b/c he cursed using the same "insulting, offensive" word as Rooney is banned for. #2 he invoked a hostile atmosphere (another infraction in the rule book) by provoking the Stretford End with his waving the camera to come towards him so that he could kiss the camera. The man ran 20 some yards to do this, went way out his way to invoke the United supporters. Remember the rule book states gestures count as well. It may sound stupid, but any football fan knows cursing goes on. Any family man (or woman) who brings their child to an EPL match fully knows what languages goes on in the stands and on the pitch. The funny thing to me is the only people thinking Wayne deserves this are those who hate United and those with Puritan ears. I think most realize any tender ear hears worse while sitting in a car @ a stoplight next to a loud car stereo of teenagers/young adults.

Rooney was not invoking violence, he was standing next to the United away supporters and celebrating with them as best he could. The stewards pushed him back which is reasonable and understood, to me, he wasn't even speaking at the camera....the camera ran up to him and pushed the lens up to his face and thus caught the statement. By the letter of the law that is a violation, so is every time I see an EPL player mouth the f-word. I just want consistency, and I think such a rule interpretation should be done at the beginning of the season, not 3/4 of the way through when the head of the FA is a former City Board member (conflict of interest???).

Wazza gets a rest and Berba can add to his goal tally and take the golden boat. Yeah I agree in all actuality this benefits United and Wayne. If we can't beat Fulham then we don't deserve the EPL crown, and with the FA Cup we'd probably go 4-5-1 anyway so Berba over Rooney should be that big of a deal (if Oshea and Fletcher are fit).

Thanks for hearing out my rant....

In the end I view "what fucking what" as a statement of "what did you just see that", or "What, what, what" (as if to say "did you just see that, 3 goals in 14 mintues, what's that all about?"), no different than "fuck yeah". Both have the word in it that most feel is offensive. Considering nobody in the stadium could hear Rooney due to the crowd noise, I doubt if anyone heard him but the United players and the TV audience. Maybe if Rooney ran towards the West Ham fans would I saw this is an offence worth a ban, but he didn't he was near his own supporters giving a rebel yell.
