1. Northern Arizona coach Mike Adras..
He not only voted the Buckeyes first, but selected Kansas second..

"I voted for who I thought was the best team in the country based on the entire body of work during the season," Adras said. "I believe it is Ohio State."

20. I disagree
I think he did the right thing if he truly believes Ohio State is #1. I'm not convinced that UCONN and Butler are really 1 and 2. But they were at this tournament.

The only body of work that matters is winning the title game.

17. More like Coach of the Year.
I don't know if Ohio State was the best team in the country, but it sure as hell wasn't either Butler or Connecticut. (at least based on what I saw last night)

22. Butler and UCONN are both very very good.
And they were the best in that format this year. But I agree with you. I'm not sure they are the top two teams. Of course, UCONN is easier to defend. They beat everyone the last two months.

were better because they got there...ridiculous post jake.

30. Not as ridiculous....
as the automatic assumption that the tournament winner is the "best" team. The best team doesn't win the tournament every year. Weird shit happens in single-elimination tournaments.

31. It's the first time a lot of teams play teams out of the conference...
so if you prove you can beat those teams, you're the best...if OSU was so good, they would have gotten farther...the only way to determine who is best is by a tournament with everyone, not the patsie big ten teams OSU plays...you win against the best, you're the best, not via some subjective criteria.

10. He's got a point.
The tournament doesn't prove who's best in the country by a longshot. Three weeks out of a 5 month season? It's about who's hot at the right time. Nothing more.

What does determine a champion?

I hate the baseball post season. After 6 months and 162 games only 12 games max says who goes to the Word Series?

15. An excellent question, El.
To me, the NHL and NBA have the true determination of a champion. But, college sports does not have that kind of time. So we live with with what we have.

The only other sport I can think of that does postseason rankings is World Cup soccer. But the only thing that matters is winning.

11. Since college hoops has a real post-season tournament
instead of some jerk-off computer generated bowl system, I don't get what the significance of the polls are. Everyone surveyed could have voted Ohio State as number one, and there would still be no ambiguity as to who the real champions are.

All but one of those 25 teams lost their last game.

Edited on Tue Apr-05-11 11:10 PM by Renew Deal
The two teams that make it to the BCS championship game are the last two not to lose. And you can't tell me that TCU couldn't go all the way last year.

25. They're not letting George King of the NY Post vote, are they?
He was the guy who left Pedro Martinez completely off his MVP ballot in 1999. He argued that pitchers don't deserve the MVP, since they have their own award. While perhaps a valid argument, it would have had more credibility coming from someone who hadn't previously (more than one year) had Mariano Rivera on his MVP ballot.

26. The body of work was left dead in the dust by Kentucky
We will be a force next year. I read, Dickie "I love the ACC" had North Carolina #1 & Kentucky #2 for 2011-2012.
2012 seems like a Zager & Evans song lyric.

I don't care who "the best team" is.

The playoff tournament produced an actual on-the-court Champion.

34. Who cares?
UConn won the tournament. No tournament and no playoffs definitively leads to the best team winning the so-called championship. Further, no poll indicates anything other than opinions of those being polled.

This is a big "So What?" !!!
