New look for ASU athletics
Edited on Wed Apr-13-11 01:56 PM by JonLP24
Sorry about talking about my local team but I found this interesting. Can't say I'm a fan, I especially hate the black alternate jerseys they got for the football and basketball team.

I can't figure out how to copy the link to slideshow but it should be the first link to the top-left. http://www.azcentral.com/sports/ and click on "Arizona State unveils a new look for athletic teams Tuesday"

2. Why does EVERYONE have to have a black alternative jersey?
Its so BOOOORING-especially if you don't have black as a traditional color. Maryland, now they have black and gold and red and white from the state flag, so while they aren't my favorite they at least make sense. And dont apologize for posting about ASU, Jon, god knows its not like you post 50 bazillion threads about your local teams. Hell, most people would be hard pressed to know you live in Az I think...:)

3. I agree
Even the Cardinals wore a black alternate jersey and that made no sense as they never ever wore black!! The jersey is ugly but it is not as bad when the Cardinals wear red pants with their red jerseys. Then I seen several people walking around with black jerseys so if others like it and it sells jerseys, I guess I understand why. Really don't like black for ASU and like you said it makes no sense.

5. I actually like Texas Tech's uniforms
I also like Cincinnati's and Northern Illinois when it comes to black and red designs. I just don't think black looks right with ASU colors and they also never wore black before, AFAIK.

6. What part of RED Raider do they not get?!
Honestly, sports uniform designers have really lost it in the last few years. I thought it was bad when the Philadelphia Eagles added black (or "dark dark green" whatever)...

8. Sorry
I usually say "Arizona State" but I think the headlines at AZCentral.com threw me off.

Such as this.

ASU rolls out university-wide re-branding effort

<snip>

"I think everybody is super excited about the direction we're going," ASU Vice President of Athletics Lisa Love said. "Never before in my career in athletics have I ever been engaged in something that was as university wide as this was."

ASU worked with Nike in creating the uniform design, which were showcased in three football color patterns: All white, all black and the traditional maroon jerseys and gold pants. ASU typically brings in $1 million in merchandise revenue. With the new look, university officials expect it to double within the next couple years. Within minutes of the launch, outlets on campus stocked their shelves with the new gear.

Several student-athletes acknowledged that uniforms don't change performance, but they said they do play a factor in recruiting.

"Recruits want to see new, flashy things," football receiver Gerell Robinson said. "I think this brings that to the table."

I knew Nike had to be involved in this.

9. Oh, that ASU...
I was thinking Alcorn State...

But seriously, black is a winning color statistically. Every AD/coach tries to get his team in it if they can... :eyes:

10. The lack of Sparky is disturbing
I bet some christian crybaby on the team that designed the new uni's didn't want the devil prominently on them. So they went with the pitchforks instead.
