This date in baseball, April 15th. Quite a day.
April 15th, 1942: Hiram ‘Hi’ Bithorn becomes the first Puerto Rican to play major league baseball for the Cubs.

April 15th, 1947: Jackie Robinson makes his major league debut for the Dodgers. Hank Greenberg makes his National League debut for the Pirates.

April 15th, 1954: Baseball returns to Baltimore after a 51-year absence when the Orioles, former the St. Louis Browns, beat the White Sox.

April 15th, 1958: The transplanted New York Giants and Brooklyn Dodgers play the first major league game on the West Coast.

April 15th, 1959: Bob Gibson makes his major league debut at LA Memorial Coliseum.

April 15th, 2000: Cal Ripken lines a base hit to center off the Twins' Hector Carrasco to become the 24th major leaguer to reach 3,000.
