8. All this over free tattoos -- astounding |
|
One would think in this day and age that Coaching 101 starts with a stern lesson of what constitutes the difference between amateur college athletics and the pros. But to think that free tattoos -- not cars or women or cash to help pay tuition -- are disrupting a football program as storied as Ohio State is beyond belief. Are college athletes really that naive or cheap or stupid that they'll break rules simply for a free tattoo? And are college coaches really that egomaniacal to think the rules don't apply to them?
Man, am I disgusted.

9. It was discounted tattoos! |

There were some free merchandise somewhere though. I bet the tattoos weren't even Buckeye related.
I've given up trying to figure out young peoples' values.

if Tressel did what he knew he was supposed to do... The players would have gotten their slap on the wrist, been suspended MAYBE for 5 games last year (I think it would have been less), would have missed out on the tough games against Marshall, Miami, Miami(OH), E. Mich and Ill, and still been in a pretty good bowl.
Instead Tressel decided NOT to report it. As the person responsible for the program (as far as the NCAA is concerned), if they can't trust him, they have a SERIOUS problem. Tressel knew what his obligations were and ignored them, had he not done this, the whole thing would have blown over a long time ago. Just like Nixon, it's not the crime, it's the coverup.

I just can't stand him. I don't think he represents Ohio State tradition, either.

13. I've probably said it here before, |
|
but I grew up with the Tressel's and Kindle's in my home town. Jim's dad, Lee, graduated from the same small high school I went to, 30 years before me. Lee and his family had moved out of my town and he was coaching at Baldwin Wallace when I was growing up. I'm sorry you have a visceral hatred of Jim Tressel, but they are good people. Yeah, I went to school with his cousins.

14. Well, I went to school with Tom Landry, Jr. |
|
And Tom Landry's family lived near me. Sure, he was a Republican but was revered by all of us.
When that total dick-wad, inbred, Arkie hillbilly, nepotismatic, bourgeois, Jerry Jones fired him I crapped the biggest shit in my whole life. My anus has never recovered!

17. But he was slippery at Youngstown State, wasn't he? |
|
There are articles about it, but they never seem to get traction.
Though I think we can at least agree on this - his overt religiosity at a state university is way out of bounds. That bugs me as much as anything else about him - of course, there are many other coaches that do this, and they bug me too, Tyrone Willingham being right up there.
Maybe he thought he was doing the right thing, I don't know, but he's always walked the line with these allegations.

Lobbying the networks for 1:00 PM (EDT), 4:30 and 8:00 kick-off times. Love this idea. http://qctimes.com/sports/columnists/doxsie/article_d464f566-6e29-11e0-b086-001cc4c002e0.html 11:00 AM games ssssssuck.

Not complaining, but the extra hour would be a godsend. Amazing how an hour makes a HUGE difference in the way an Old Style tastes!!

Generally speaking I tend to like the craft brews, but when I am slumming it I go PBR or High Life.

The problem with Old Style is it used to be cheap. Now you have to pay a premium beer price for it.

23. Ohio State used to be my second favorite team in the Big 10 |
|
Until Tressel. I loved the rivalry, loved the fire of Bo vs. Woody and how it carried on through Earle Bruce (not so much with Cooper). But Tressel killed it. He was clearly 'win at all costs' and the athletes he recruited are proof of that. I know they love him because of all the wins against Michigan but he's slimy and has sunk a proud, traditional program into the mire. This will cling to Ohio State for a long, long time.
