Ruh roh.

But then again, Joe has to manage the team, so...

Hm.

1. Let's hope George isn't going to try to play manager again
If you think the Yankees are having a bad year now, just wait for that . . . .

5. Steinbrenner can't help his self
Edited on Tue Jun-28-05 04:49 PM by Gman
That's probably exactly what he'll end up doing. Not actually sitting in the dugout and sending in pinch hitters and relief pitchers, but he'll be doing it from the owner's box through somebody. (He'll probably approve the starting lineup.) Probaby not Torre.

Maybe I'm being too critical, but that's what it seems like he does when he gets into that mode.

7. "Poor George. He can't help it,he was born with a silver foot in his mouth
"

Reminds me of what Ann Richards said about George HW Bush.

8. Wasn't Ann Richards' quote something like:
"He was born with a silver spoon up his nose..." or something?

10. He was born with a silver foot in his mouth
From the '88 convention. Brought the house down.

The Bush guys recovered some ground later in the week, tho, after Ted Kennedy spoke. Teddy did his famous "Where was George?" speech, listing all the shit that had happened under Reagan and asking where George was for it all. The Bush campaign released a one-sentence press release in reply:

"At home, in bed with my wife, and sober."

Game, set, match.

2. Remember Nick Johnson? he's hitting .320 for Washington
the Yanks have traded away some young talent (Johnson and Soriano) and pitching for an aging team. Not good. But as a Red Sox fan, it's nice to see that all the Yankees' money couldn't buy them a good team this year.

20. Being a good Dem is more important in my book.
He has also improved his team, which makes him a good owner. As for the Washington team......every baseball owner looks out for the bottom line. That's capitalism.

22. uhhhh
Angelos didnt improve the O's, I think Tejada who was signed by Beatie and Flannigan is more to with anything. I dont like Angelos' ownership of the O's but I like what he does for the party and workers especially.

25. I do too
I think hes a bad owner but like his politics, the fact that our politics are the same is pure concidence, its like oh its nice but I could careless, the O's were when I was a little kid owned by Eli Jacobs a big RNC donor. I got in to sports before I got in to politics, I think they should be seperate with the exception of say 55 years ago when you had some bigoted owners who were against integrating the league.

27. Yeah I think hes a bad owner, the Davey Johnson fiasco agh
but if I recall hes one of the best labor lawyers in the state of Maryland and was at one point I saw in the top ten of donors to the DNC. Thats all good but baseball is my way out of politics, same goes with football, I like the Steelers because I admire the team's history and identify more with Pittsburgh football than I do Washington or Baltimore, dont know why, I Guess you could say I was infleuenced strongly by a friend of mine who is from pittsburgh.

I think hes a bad owner but hes really a good guy outside of baseball, btw you should root for the O's because the team has a great history too, and Camden Yards is in my opinion the best ballpark built in the last 50 years if not the best overall.

3. Cleaning Up

Yankee Fans Will Be Asked To Shower Before Entering New Stadium

NEW YORK --When the new Yankee Stadium opens in 2009, it will be home to 57 luxury box suites. Team officials will be looking to make a good impression on the corporate clients who rent them, so they plan to ask all Yankee fans to shower, shave and “make themselves presentable” before entering.
“I hope our fans don’t take this the wrong way, but we’re looking to woo some pretty important people with these new luxury boxes,” said team president Randy Levine.
