Who got snubbed? Who doesn't belong?

I'd say Cory Dillon got the big snub and Tony Gonzales doesn't deserve to be there in the AFC. Michael Vick and Ahman Green do not deserve to be on the NFC roster while Brian Westbrook and Brett Favre are the snubs. Favre hasn't had his best year but has played far better than Vick. Vick has only two 200+ yard passing games all year and looks terrible in the pocket.

2. Who's this Peyton Manning fellah?
Jake Plummer should be there. Doesn't he lead the league in interceptions or somethin'

6. Yeah, he is also #3 in AFC passing yards and #5 in TD passes
Edited on Thu Dec-23-04 08:16 AM by Champ
Of course he also chucked the ball more then anyone in the AFC which means he has good chance of throwing alot of INTs. and with an aging veteran, young reciever with tremedous playmaking ability but hasn't shown he is a WR that will consistently make a catch and move the chains week-in-week-out, Rookie Watts out of Marshall who has played fairly decent for a lean rookie WR, and a pair of TE's that would be no better then #2nd stringers for most teams. Compare that too a 1 year younger Smith, Sharpe, Lelie, McCaffery, and Portis. He had a much better targets at the TE and RB position then he does this year and Plummer was more consistent. Plummer has been put in a position to make plays and play catch up the last 3 weeks moreso then he has the first 12. After week 12 Plummer had a 90+ QB rating with 22-11 TD-INT ratio(best numbers of his career), since then 1 TD 8 INTS later and he is being lynched and already given up on by many of the Bronco faithful(If I got a dime for all the times Denver gave up(last time was after the Jacksonville home playoff loss in '96 where many fans called for his retirement, the next year Denver went on to win Super Bowl 31) on Elway, I'd be $$$). There are a number of reasons Jake leads the league in INTS, #1 is the inability to find the consistent starter at RB. Though I think they finally found one with Bell who has carried the rock well the times he has including 123 yards off of 17 carries in 2 qtrs vs Miami. #2 In 3 of Denver's loses the ground game was immediately ineffective forcing them to go one dimensional which ALWAYS plays in the defenses hands. #3 Defense letting teams get ahead quickly and forcing the offense to play catchup, something Plummer has done for 6 seasons in Arizona. Plummer came close to rallying against Atlanta and San Diego but Plummer's desire to make a big play has lead him to force throws he wouldn't normally force. If you watched a Broncos game to analyze the reason behind the INTs, when the running game isn't moving an inch and the opposing team is off to a big lead quickly, the offensive then becomes one dimensional. Then the defense can focus on stopping the pass and as you can see the recievers have trouble getting open, the qb begins to get pressured, and the playaction pass (which is highly effective for Denver when the run game is efficient and because Jake has an uncanny ability to throw accurately on the run on either the left or right side of where the center-qb exchange took place) which is a dangerous Denver weapon is no longer decieving. To be a QB requires alot of mental toughness, you can play well then all of a sudden you make a mistake or two, then you put yourself in a hole that is difficult to climb out of. The thing I like about Jake is he will bounce back from a bad play or a loss firing on all cylinders. Ex. Vs KC, he throws an illivised pass under pressure which is intercepted. On the following drive he leads Denver to a TD score. After the Jacksonville loss he completes 70% of his passes for 2 TDs in a win vs SD, after the ATL loss he smokes the Texans for 4 TD passes. Last year he threw 3 INTs vs Cincy, next week he throws 3 TDs in his first 13 passes. The most impressive was Jake threw an INT on the third play of the game vs Indy @RCA Dome which was returned for 6, on Denver's very next offensive play he throws a bomb to Lelie for 60 yards which eventually lead to a TD. He went on to complete 14 of his next 16 passes. Basically what I'm saying is when the run game is ineffective(forcing Denver to go one dimensional) and Denver's defense puts the offense in a situation where they have to play catch up is what has lead to most of Jake's ints. When the defense keeps opponents out of the endzone and the run game is efficient is when Jake played extremely well. When the team has their QB out there chucking the ball 40 times a game(Jake threw for 40 or more passes in 5 games this season, last year he didn't throw for 40 once) it makes defensive playcalling easy and the QB's job that much harder. Jake is a tough competitor and is 17-8 as Denver's starter, I'll tell you with him as the QB Denver will be a tough team to beat the last 2 weeks of the season as they compete for the final WC spot. As far as INT's go, Brett Farve is a tough competitor that literally comes to play every week, he has an accurate cannon that finds the endzone an awfully lot(avg'd 29 TDs a year for GB) but he does give defenses plenty of chances though. I think 75% of his interceptions were from the times he was pressured and forced a throw while backpeddling(or scrambling out of the pocket) to avoid a sack. He always has about a handfull of games each season in which he threw for 3-4 INTs.

3. farrior and spikes makes it with 84 and 86 tackles respectively..
meanwhile, the Charger's Donnie Edwards leads the league in tackles (135), has four INTs and a touchdown, and doesn't make the roster. Stupid popularity contest.

4. Al Wilson, Denver Broncos
Edited on Thu Dec-23-04 06:09 AM by Champ
He flies to the ball, is excellent in pursuit. He is a LB Corps leader, everyone who plays LB for Denver plays well. You should've seen how well he lead last year's crew after Mobley and Ian Gold went down for the season. Spragen, Sykes, and Pierce all stepped up and contributed. Now Spragen starts and Rookie DJ Williams is definately a finalist for ROY. DJ Williams is awesome, he ties Wilson for team lead in tackles. Farve argurably had the 3rd best year in the NFC behind Culpepper and McNabb, Vick however has 899 rushing yards on pace to eclipse 1,000. Stat line, 16 Total TDs(3 Rushing), 55.7%, 3,177 total yards, 12 INTS. He actually had a fairly consistent year considering being ran into an offense that didn't flow well from the start, Vick is most dangerous when he is in the shotgun and ATL is using Vick more and more from the Shotgun position. I think the coach is now realizing what an extremely talented player he has and what he can do. Running him into the West Coast has been tough for Vick, but for much of the year he has been consistent. He pitched very poor passing performances vs Arizona, KC, and Tampa which hurt his average but 899 rushing yards is freakin' amazing for a QB, ESPECIALLY off of only 117 carries(7.6 YPC). Warrick Dunn has 105 more carries but only 33 more yards. If an RB can get in for having 1200+ yards and 5+ TDs a QB with 2,200+ passing and 1,000+ rushing makes a good argument. However Brett Farve should be the 3rd QB simply because of having the 3rd highest passing % in the NFC(I didn't count Griese, the 3 threw almost twice as many passes), 3rd highest in passing yardage and threw the third most TD passes in the NFC. 3+3+3=He should be the #3 Pro Bowl QB. Brett however only has 40 rushing yards :D Vick would be my 4th QB. ATL is 23-11-1(includes PO win vs GB and PO loss vs Phily) with Vick as the starter(He is 2-2, 3-10 without him.(Since Vick's first full season as the starter) Clearly he makes a difference when he steps out onto the field. Despite his average passing numbers, the fact he is on pace for over 1000 rushing yards is definately something worth noting esp. for a QB. He is a playmaker that knows how to win games(did you see the Carolina game? What an impressive late 4th qtr drive to tie the game. The 4th and Goal 12 yard run, he is the only QB that could've pulled it off at that time) whether that is through the air or on the ground.

As far as Dillon that is really tough, here are arguments for the final 3.
LT: 12,000+ rushing yards and 16 touchdowns(1st in the NFL)
Dillon: 4.7 YPC(t-1st AFC) and 11 Touchdowns.
Edgerrin James: 1464 rushing yards(2nd in the AFC) with a 4.7 YPC, His 9 TD's were 7th best in the NFC.

LT would be easy to drop but TD numbers are highly considered, he does have the most rushing TDs in the league. Dillon has almost as many rushing yards but the same 4.7 YPC as James, he also has 2 more TDs. You could make a case for all 3 of them, who would you drop? Forced to pick one I'd drop James despite the incredible year he his having, the rushing TD leader should be in the Game, the top rushers(#1Martin, #2James, #3Dillon) certainly deserve a spot but I think Dillon's 11 TD's edge out James. James has the same YPC as Dillon, has only 9 more carries(34 more Rush yards then Dillon), but slightly fewer TDs. But it wasn't an obvious in-your-face snub, 4 RBs in the AFC deserve Pro Bowl invites but they can only had out 3. Besides the Pro Bowl bores me to tears, I like watching competitive football. Not watching million dollar athletes vacationing in Hawaii play a scrimmage where the offenses score like NBA teams. The only football I watch between Super Bowl and the Start of the upcoming Regular Season is Arena Football. Arena Football is probaly the most affordable, fan friendly sport alive.

on edit: I missed you Westbrook-Green case, the NFC didn't have many star runners this year. Any of the top 4 RBs in the AFC would be a starter in the NFC. Westbrook's recieving numbers are the only reason he should be considered, on the ground Vick has more yards. Green boasts a nice YPC, 1,000 yards, and 6 TDs. Yeah Westbrook got snubbed big time, his recieving stats are pretty damn good for an RB and has racked up solid yardage on the ground as well. Atleast Portis didn't get in, that would be an outrage. He carried the ball more times then any player in the league but is 7th in the league in rushing yards. Fumbilitis looks like a disease that is rarely cured, Green fumbled 6 times and Portis 5. Both had cases of fumbilitis entering the league.

7. Randy Moss snubbed.
Yeah he missed a few games because of his hamstring injury. Still the best receiver in the game today.
