Eagles' Pinkston ruptures achilles, gone for the season

Pinkston injured running sideline route

BETHLEHEM, Pa. -- Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Todd Pinkston ruptured an Achilles tendon in practice Friday and is out for the season.

Pinkston injured his ankle when he was tripped up on a route down the sideline. He remained down for several minutes before limping to the medical tent. A few hours after the injury, the team said he was out for the season.

The injury is a blow to the Eagles, who aren't deep at wide receiver. Receiver Terrell Owens, day-to-day with left groin inflammation, did not practice Friday morning.

Behind Pinkston and Owens, the team has third-year pro Greg Lewis and Billy McMullen, a third-round pick in 2003. Rookie Reggie Brown had been competing with McMullen to be the fourth receiver.

2. That's a nasty injury
a long recovery too. The Eagles will miss him this year. I'm not one to gloat over another's injury but this will certainly help the Giants out...especially if TO keeps finding little "injuries" to slow him down

4. Let's just say the division is not longer locked up....
...the back-up RB Buckhalter also has a bone bruise (bad news for a guy who's ripped up both knees)

Add to that, I think Simon and Westbrook are still holding out but I may be wrong.

Though Plaxico pulled a hip flexer or some crap like that.

9. They'd have to lose the whole starting offense to lose the division.
Everyone else in the NFC East sucks so bad losing Pinkston is a minor thing.

8. I would disagree..
since Pinkston is more suited for spread-it-around than go-to-guy, but the questions about Owens make me nervous about this injury. There's not much depth at receiver on the Eagles to begin with.

Go Eagles, though!

10. Untrue. Pinky stretched the defense with his speed.
He will be missed but it is hardly a death knell.

11. I think
some of the other guys they have are just as good. TO opened up the field for everyone. I'm a Giants fan, but I don't think this will make a bit of difference.

12. Greg Lewis is capable of stepping into Pinky's spot.
I'm just worried about starting a rookie in the slot. Brown is promising and they say he's getting the system faster than any receiver they've had but it's still iffy starting a rook. I'd like to see them grab Tai Streets or Koren Robinson to get a veteran in there. Pinkston is underrated, he's not great but he's not horrible either.

14. Haha no shit.
I would take a look at him if he is available. He can play a little and he'd be really cheap with all that baggage.

15. I can't wait for the season
I think my Giants will be much better. The OL is vastly improved, Shock is in great shape and Eli is looking good.

16. Neither can I.
My season tickets just came in. I was up at Giants Stadium last year for the game, had a good time. How do you feel about your defense this year?

18. Defense will be better
Antonio Pierce was a huge signing. Webster is a big addition to the secondary. Strahan is healthy again and looking good. Osi is having a great camp giving us a great DE combo. The DT's are a weakness. Hopefully, the draft picks will come through well. We get Gibril Wilson back in the secondary. His injury was a huge loss last year. I'm not naive enough to think the Giants will contend for the division title, but I do believe this team has a good chance to earn a wild card birth.

17. No big loss
one of the worst NFL receivers. Any scrub they pick up off waivers will be just as good.
