If I've got this right, the BoSox' magic number is ONE |
|
A Boston win regardless of what Cleveland does gives the Sox the wild card.
If both Boston and Cleveland lose, the Sox are still the wild card.
If Boston loses and Cleveland wins, there's a one-game playoff on Monday.
Did I hear that right??

1. Ok, here's what the Globe says |

Even with today's loss, the Red Sox clinched at least a one-game playoff on Monday against the Indians. A look at the possibilities heading into Sunday (the White Sox have clinched the Central and the Angels the West):
If the Red Sox win and Indians lose Sunday: Boston 95-67 Cleveland 93-69 Red Sox win the wild card.
If Red Sox win and Indians win Sunday: Boston 95-67 Cleveland 94-68 Red Sox win the wild card.
If the Red Sox lose and the Indians lose: Boston 94-68 Cleveland 93-69 Red Sox win the wild card.
If Red Sox lose and Indians win: Boston 94-68 Cleveland 94-68 The Red Sox host the Indians on Monday at Fenway Park. The winner of that game wins the AL wild card spot
