Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim?
ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Baseball's Angels have a new name, and it's a mouthful: The Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

The switch, which will be challenged in court by the city of Anaheim, is intended to help the team market itself to more of Southern California, attract more advertising sponsors and broadcast revenue, the team said Monday.

"We believe that the appeal in the marketplace will be broader," Angels spokesman Tim Mead said.

The city of Anaheim will file a lawsuit to block the name change and hopes to obtain a temporary restraining order in place this week, city spokesman John Nicoletti said.

7. exactly. when I was a kid, "California Angels" seemed just fine.

but that was before "King Marketing" took over, and divided the entire country and all of the states into little fiefdoms.

2. The Angels are the only team with this kind of inferiority complex.
Geez, pick a name and stick with it. You would've thought the Disney folks would've wanted to keep a team name that encompassed all of California.

You would never hear the Mets calling themselves "The Flushing Mets of Queens" or the White Sox officially calling themselves "The Pale Hose of South Chicago".

4. WTF is wrong with Orange County Angels
Everyone I know from Orange County CA does not wish to associate with Los Angeles anyway!

8. that's good
And they could wear really obnoxious orange uniforms to emphasize the Orange County connection. Baseball uniforms are so empty of imagination these days.

10. Well it's us folks in Anaheim that have been going to the games
dealing with the traffic and subsidizing the place...I think if Disneyland can claim Anaheim, the Angels can too

5. I wonder how much money the city of Anaheim has given them...
for stadium construction/refurbishment and supporting infrastructure? My guess... a lot.

6. a "major league inferiority complex", to say the least
it is, of course, a marketing gimmick. they have been trying to chip into the Dodger's base since their new owner took over. but when your marketing strategy makes you look dumb and overly self-conscious, maybe it's just a silly idea in the first place.

they've also gone out of their way to sign former Dodgers, and even went as far as to sign the Dodgers' shortstops' brother (yes, yes, coincidence I know, but still managed to gain funny looks from around the league). next thing you know, they'll change their colors to blue/white, and phase in an "L" interlocking with their current "A" cap logo.

kinda unseemly, considering they were the world champions not so long ago.
