Friday night NFL:Fins and Chiefs move game to Friday night
http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=2198438

MIAMI -- Hurricane Wilma is already causing problems for sporting events scheduled for this weekend.

With Wilma expected to arrive with potentially devastating force in Florida, several major events have been rescheduled.

The Miami Dolphins said Thursday that their game originally scheduled Sunday against the Kansas City Chiefswill now be played at 7 p.m. Friday. NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said broadcast and television details were being worked out.

A celebration of the team's 40th anniversary and Dan Marino's induction into the Hall of Fame has also been rescheduled, the Miami Herald reported.

Marino will now receive his Hall of Fame ring at halftime of the Nov. 6 game against the Atlanta Falcons, the Herald reported.

1. A warning for anyone who already bet this game
You may not have a bet at all, if you bet when the game was scheduled for Sunday. Definitely something to check out. Call your offshore joint or bookmaker, or whatever.

If you bet it legally in the state of Nevada, the wager is almost certainly voided. You get a refund. The date change regulation kicks in. Almost every property states it must be played within 24 hours of the original scheduling. Over the years I've seen many people either tear up bets, or stroll confidently to the window to collect, when really the wagers are nothing but refunds.

Obviously, bookmakers may have entirely different perspective. I don't deal with them and can't guess.

Right now the game is off the board here. It will no doubt go back up soon. Once the new line is up, with the Friday timeline, those wagers will go, assuming the game is played tomorrow. Before the number was taken off the board, Miami was a slight favorite and the total had been bet down from the 43 range to as low as 40

3. I heard it was only on NFL Network and Direct TV
Sports bars should have it.

As per moving it to Kansas City, you must not have seen the new regime Dolphins with Gus Frerotte and a lousy offensive line try to play on the road. They got thumped in both preseason road games at Pittsburgh and Jacksonville, and lost fairly routinely in regular season road games at the Jets, Buffalo and Tampa Bay. The Dolphins just can't score on the road. Meanwhile, Miami put up 34 and 27 while defeating Denver and Carolina at home.

Last night, when there was brief speculation the game could be moved to Kansas City and its considerable home field advantage, you should have seen the screaming on Dolphin message boards.

5. I fully understand the frustration
I live in Las Vegas so the games are shown in sportsbooks here. Otherwise, I'd have to traipse to a bar and not be thrilled about it. This August I was in Miami when Katrina hit us, prior to strengthening and moving toward New Orleans. We lost power for two days and I went to a sports bar to watch Miami play Tampa Bay in an exhibition. I had already eaten and really just wanted to watch the game. One waitress understood that, but another one was pushy and insulting the entire time. I finally got a pitcher of beer and some onion rings, but her attitude cost a tip.

The problem with this hurricane was the timetable. The league couldn't tell when it would hit. Last night it looked like Monday night was a possibility for moving the game, which would have allowed TV. But today the timetable changed when Wilma stalled, so they decided to sneak it in on Friday.

I completely agree the league needs a better TV policy and more flexibility, especially in terms of sending the feed to the home area of the visiting team.

6. Hey, it might be televised in Kansas City
Edited on Thu Oct-20-05 08:32 PM by Awsi Dooger
I just plucked this from a Dolphin message board, supposedly from ESPN:

"Just read this on ESPN:

" The game will be televised by CBS affiliates in primary secondary markets in South Florida and Kansas City. But there will be no national telecast."

On edit: sorry, I just reread your post about Wichita and the mile radius. Maybe this doesn't apply
