Cox/Guillen Named Managers of the Year |
|
I understand Guillen being named manager of the year for the AL in that he lead the White Sox to their first World Series Championship in more than 80 years. However, I do not see any reason for Cox to be named NL manager of the year. I am a Braves fan, but they were not even able to make it out of the first round of the playoffs. I think they only won one or two games in that series.

I am also a huge Braves fan but I didn't see Cox winning it . . I saw Russa or Garner winning it. I mean I like Cox. . and it's nice seeing him win it (granted he's won it three times in the past) but I dunno.
Oh and they won only one game in the playoff series against Houston.
In any case congrats to him still.
Guillen I have no question about winning.
Edit: Stupid question. Is it safe to assume that voting happened before the play offs therefore the playoff managing performances had no bearings on who won?

2. if the voting was final before the playoffs |
|
then I could see a valid point on Cox...as much as I hate the Braves (a rabid Mets fan here) he did do quite a lot with a bunch of nobodies. There were so many injuries on that team that I swear the median age for a Braves player was 24

3. Cox won (I would guess) because of thin pitching and all those rookies |
|
Now you might think that the rookies are just a sign a strong farm program (The Braves have one of the best-actually own their AAA team in Richmond) but managing that many rookies can be tough.
The Braves used 8 rookies in the NLDS a playoff record.
*interesting fact* (weight added due to the nature of sport especially baseball these days)--in game 2 of the NLDS the ENTIRE STARTING 9 for the Braves had.....wait for it.....NEVER PLAYED FOR ANOTHER TEAM.
McCann LEfarvree (?) Giles Furcal Chipper LEft field guy Andruw Jordan Schmoltz pitching
pretty amazing.
I might have gotten the starting 9 wrong but that is a fact.
