Is today the day for upsets in college football?
There always seems to be one Saturday each year when a lot of ranked teams lose. I think today might be that day. OSU losing to Michigan would be an upset, as would Alabama losing at Auburn. I could also see VA Tech losing at Virginia, and Penn State at Michigan State. Anyway, this weekend has that sort of feel for it. Am I right? Well, we'll know by the end of the day!

1. As long as the Gophers get Floyd of Rosedale from Iowa
all will be fine.

5. Not today Gopher
52-28 good guys. Minnesota rarely beats my beloved Hawkeyes, especially at Kinnick Stadium. When is Minnesota going to get an on campus stadium anyway? I fear that in hoops the Gophers will prevail over Iowa though. Alford=overrated.

2. one of them, most likely, will lose.
the best chance is Michigan, they're in the Big House. And Ohio State has the most to lose.

I think Tech crushes UVA, there's just not enough going for the Cavs.
Penn State/MSU is interesting, but the Spartans could catch them sleeping and beat them on their best day. not going to happen, I think the boys from Happy Valley will be ready.

the intersting game is out west, Oregon State can always beat Oregon. And can Fresno State catch USC looking forward? probably not, but it could happen.

3. Oregon--Oregon State should be interesting--records don't seem to
mean much in this rivalry.

As for USC, I think the Notre Dame game woke them up to the fact that they could be beaten. They're awake now, and so much better than the rest of the teams they face, can't see them losing.

4. Alabama was a 7 point underdog to Auburn
The higher ranked team isn't necessarily the favorite. The media makes that faulty assumption all the time. An example just the other night in college basketball. Wake Forest was ranked #19 but was an underdog on a neutral court to unranked Florida. The next day I saw an internet splash screen saying Florida won a stunning upset over 19th ranked Wake Forest.

Very tough spot for Alabama today, playing an arch rival on the road one week after losing for the first time. In college football any team that starts the season on a long winning streak and then loses for the first time has a dramatic tendency to be flat the following week. That's one of the reasons Alabama was a 7 point underdog today. That trend has become more publicized and bettors would have pounced on the Auburn side if the pointspread had been low.

6. Well...this apparently isn't the week for upsets!!!!!!!
Miami is losing right now, but I don't think that will last much longer; Oregon is routing OSU, and LSU is winning big. Can't recall a weekend of upsets this year...did I miss something? Usually there's a big weekend of upsets...probably won't be with so few weeks and so few games left.

7. I'm hoping it's not my Canes
But looking bleak with 5 minutes left.

This is just the type of blue collar physical team that always gives us fits. Especially if the QB can run. I fear that type of team much more than the softer offensive minded teams.

Miami should never have moved into the ACC. Incomparable masochism and lousy handicapping and I said so beforehand. Unless we have superior offensive talent there are simply too many land mines compared to the Big East.

8. Miami has looked awful all night.
As good as they looked two weeks ago, they've looked as bad tonight. Credit to Georgia Tech's defense though. They were terrific.

13. I posted that when it was the first quarter--I really never imagined
it would remain close and Miami would lose.

9. Woo hoo!!! Georgia Tech 14 Miami 10!
I would have to say YES! We just knocked off #3 Miami at Miami. They haven't lost at home in 55 games!

It's great to be a fuzzy bee!

15. they're a good team
they've now lost at two top ten teams by a combined eleven points. no defense, but a great offense.

16. It'll be interesting to see the rankings today...
...they better move up, and I really hope Miami drops a lot...they're a decent team, but they lost two games to teams they really should not have.

17. Miami should be ten, I figure and out of BCS contention
Heck, if VaTech beats Carolina, they don't even make their conference playoff.

the interesting thing to me, is that if Notre Dame stays in the top 8, there is only one at large BCS berth for the taking. even if they're in the top twelve. they are all but guaranteed a spot. so who gets the 8th spot? depends on who wins the SEC. If everyone wins out, and USC-Texas gives us the Rose Bowl we all want to see, Fiesta picks next (since they lost Texas to Rose) Figure they'll take Penn State (who wouldn't? they'll travel like no one's business)

Miami losing actually throws a spanner into these works, you have to figure Orange was salivating about Catholics vs. Convicts III, but maybe not now. but wil they take ND/VTech?

If UCLA beats USC, do they both go? Who gets screwed more, Oregon or Ohio State by not getting a bid? Both lost to a team in the finals, at home, after all. and the most important question of all, why is Brady Quinn being considered a Heisman finalist? how badly will Notre Dame lose in any BCS bid?

this is why it's fun to have polls, not playoffs. No one ever does this much talking about bracketology, for instance.

18. Brady Quinn has been putting up numbers comparable to Leinart,
that's why!

And if ND had beaten USC, he just might have won--not talk of him leaving early (he's a junior) so next year he'll be the top contender if he keeps this up.

BTW, Miami did drop to #10.
